I was just wondering if anyone has seen or has an athlon system? I am planning on getting one pretty soon and just wanted to see what people had to say about them..
I know they are coming out with a thinner chip so it will be able to cool better/go faster, but I dont want to wait that long lol :)
I am planning on getting the 500Mhz version as the 550 is almost twice as much as the 500 :(..
Oh well I just wanted to see what anyone had to say, and if they know a good place to get either a system or the processor/motherboard..

Speaking of Seti... the 500mhz version of the Power Mac G4 does it in a whopping 6 hours a block. And I don't think the client software is optimized for the G4's special capabilities. I know that SETI forced Microsoft to stop using a specially optimized version to keep things fair.
Oh, and get this. Apple can't export the G4 machines to several foreign countries because they are classified as "supercomputers" (more than 1 billion operations per second)by the U.S. government. -not a rumor, absolutely true- :)
Plus they finally put AGP in it, and Firewire, etc. The bottleneck in this computer is the user ;)

Now I'm upset - I get 31 hours on a 233... how do you get 28 hours on a 166 (187, whatever)???????? LOL :)[nbsp][nbsp]I upgraded my RAM to 160 megs from 64 mid-packet, so maybe my next one will be a little faster...
