View Full Version : Email Forwarding question - non-FQ related
My brother will be graduating from college in a week. He is trying to figure out a way to have his school mail forwarded to a web based email account. They use some kind of backwoods system like Pine. ;)
Does anyone know of a way to do something like this? Being college educated, he has neglected to change his school email address on all the resumes he has sent out instead of putting a new address on them. Naturally, he doesn't want to miss out on any job opportunities. ;)
Any help would be appreciated!!

Pine is not a system. It is a mailreader, like Eudora, for instance.
If they're running Pine, then they must have a Unix system.
The best thing to do, is to contact the help desk. Normally in unix there is a .forward file, which is a plain text file where you can simply type the new address where you want your mail forwarded.
But some universities set up management software (usually web based) to handle for handling these things instead.
I searched Alta Vista with the following question:
How do I use a .forward file on Unix system to forward my e-mail?
And found the following help file (among others):
http://infoboard.com/infoboard/forward.htm
Again, I would encourage him to check with his Uni to make sure that this is really the correct way to handle his e-mail there.
Thanks Sheila. Actually I didn't mean Pine was literally a system. I do know the difference. I just didn't state it very well ;)
After my bro assured me he had searched the Auburn site for info on this, I decided to check also. Found just the info I/he needed. Watch out world! Here he comes!!
