View Full Version : Slo-o-o-o-o-w Email?
Yesterday and today, it seems like the email has a bottleneck in it.[nbsp][nbsp]Outlook Express tells me that it's connected and then nothing.
Then I get the "Your server hasn't responded in 60 seconds" warning and if I click the[nbsp][nbsp]"Wait" button, the mail will finally begin dribbling in.
Is there something up?
Thanks,
[nbsp]Tom
Well, crud.[nbsp][nbsp]The cybergods were watching and now I succesfully connect and get off the email in seconds.
sigh.
That's the way it usually goes for me..... "broken until I try to show someone... then WOW It Works!" (can't decide if it's good or bad when it happens hehe)
At any rate... you may also want to try opening a Dos box and running a tracert mail.futurequest.net just to verify whether or not there is something happening in between, that could be affecting it too.
Hopefully it'll just work for you now :)

I've been getting the same error with Eudora when trying to send e-mail through a domain POP. I usually send e-mail through my ISP's POP, but lately my girlfriend has been using a POP on my domain and getting timed out a lot, so I started checking it and have had the same problem at the same times. I just ran a tracert while waiting for Eudora to connect to the server and didn't see any slow hops. The problem is intermittent and usually goes away after a few minutes, but it seems to be occurring more frequently lately (all times of the day and night). Any chance the spammer you had a few days ago hatched a bug?

Are you deleting mail from the server after you check it? If not, you might be downloading a huge list of old messages each time you check your mail so your email client can figure out what's new and what's been read...
Other than that, I'm about 1200 miles from the servers, checking 4 accounts (2 on SIX and 2 on TAZ) every 10 minutes, and I've never had a slowdown - and of course I set Outlook to delete mail from the server once it's been downloaded... that's the only thing I can think of that could cause the slowness.
The mail server is not bugged - it has been functioning as expected since the spamming incident.

However, Terra since closed that thread and posted here:

This probably will answer your question if you are on SIX too.
