WWW needed in domain name?

Up to this evening, I've accessed my site with just http://katsmeow.com. That's how my home button is set. Tonight, that just drew a blank, and the timer stayed on until I chose another URL. MSIE4 didn't even make a pretense of looking for the site. When I typed in http://www.katsmeow.com it worked fine. Has something changed in the server to require the www?

Works fine for me without the 'www' prefix. Could have just been a hiccup in your ISP or your browser.
