View Full Version : Did Something Happen?

It is 5:30 p.m. (CST) and I am just now able to access FutureQuest, my account and ALL of my client's accounts (ACK!) - for the first time since last evening.

I had full access to other sites - thinking it was a glitch with the move?

Glad to be back!

I think we can blame our *friends* at Sprintlink although I may be wrong. I was down (and all other FQuest sites) over 7 hours that I noticed. No doubt Terra will shed some light. Boy, I bet he was a happy bunny.... not http://www.aota.net/ubb/wink.gif

Boy, I bet he was a happy bunny.... not

NOT! is right :/

Andrew is STILL at the new noc hashing this stuff out.... we'll all know more once he returns (if he's awake enough) as far as the details of what happened.

This is what I know so far:

2am pull out of the Ocala office right as the bars are closing out and the police are closing in....
Car dies right in the middle of the road....

Ya know -- There is something suspicious about a 'young couple' at 2am with a lot of expensive equipment in a vehicle *sigh* (insert long story here)

Ok -- Car back up, police chilled out, and we're on the road http://www.aota.net/ubb/smile.gif

Arrive at the new location and whatdoya know... the tech there has "new news" for us and things aren't quite as we had been told they would be..... (insert long story here too)

Ok -- working things out and time to see if we can't squeeze an upgrade into the server since we're all unplugged anyway --- hrrrmmmmm didn't quite work (insert very long story here also)

Clock is ticking and tis time to know when to say stop with Plan A and Plan B and jump straight into Plan Z (Plan Z always works cuz it involves minimal adjustments) plug this box in and get these people back online -- we'll work on the rest another day.

Looks ok -- it is running -- but it is terribly slow -- what's up? The new NOC has the routing messed up:/ This wont work. Deb is now home (around 8am).

Andrew is now spending the rest of the afternoon working with them (if you ever get the chance to see three very tired techs in a room all night -- SKIP IT <g> )

From what I can see in the trace routes at this point there has been success.... We are directly hooked into the backbone right now and have rid ourselves of the slowest hops we had to get there... You should be noticing a great increase in speed at this point. (what was just felt should be just some final adjustments, scan disks, and reboots to synch it all together and turn it on. I know he was planning to get a watchdog card in there before he left)

We are no longer having to go through the troublesome hops that were causing us problems all month.

The long and short of it in laymans terms is that we were ready for the move, and they were ready for us... until we actually begain the move and found an important piece missing on that end. It looks like that has now been fixed and Andrew will be able to explain more if there is more to explain when he returns.

This was not Sprintlink -- it was the routing we were handed to get to them... and it was faulty. :/

For those wondering about billing -- I'll be spending the week (after I sleep) emailing each one of you individually (alphabetically by domain name) and doing our best to rectify this month's lack of connectivity.

How much stress can one heart take when one heart can't take stress? One heart stresses it needs to take all the stress that many hearts just can't take.

Okay... so I had some extra time on my hands.
Please tell me what you think. You are welcome to call me anytime there are "problems" and I will post. Maybe we could form a network of volunteers?

If I am way off base, just let me know.
I think it explains itself:

We are waiting on the transfer of FutureQuest.org to do just that Paul.

We'll be putting up a site and forum on our peer server in Arkansas for times like these....

This should hopefully be completed within 7 days or so....

Interesting it was Meikel.... but outcome is looking positive...

Deb
p.s. we actually win some on top hosts challenge now http://www.tophosts.com/cgi-bin/traceroute.cgi so the end results are great -- it's just the getting there part that is hurting bad today.

Wierd. I haven't been able to get into anything of yours using my ISP - it said 'host contacted' and then nothing ever came back (even now - 21:30 EST). So I connected using my CompuServe account that routes through Columbus - and here I am.

I figured something between me and you went out. Could there be some residual DNS settling?

<30 minutes later> Oh, yay! I'm back in with my ISP! 17 hops from CServe, 14 from my ISP in West Texas.

Well, it's now approx 10pm here, and this is about the first time I've been able to get to FQuest, my domains, aota, etc... since last night. The joy of it is, it's all my ISP's fault. We'd dial up, and it'd go just hunky-dory, until I actually tried to call an URL, nothing at all would happen ('contacting host...', nothing else). I finally did a tracert to futurequest.net, and figured out that my connection was getting out of my house, and dying... It seems earthlink wasn't able to connect to anything outside of themselves. Loverly day http://www.aota.net/ubb/smile.gif

However, now everything here is tearing right along. Looks like all went well, after the joys you all experienced getting equipment moved that is. As far as emailing domains alphabeticly about billing, feel free to skip over djweb.net, downinit.com and splitangels.org. You've got enough headaches, and you've already done enough for us, so don't worry about it http://www.aota.net/ubb/smile.gif

God you folks had me worried like crazy. Uploaded like 25 files via FTP, then went to check on the upload via web and nothing. Wasn't able to get through for like 12 hours (and I tried like mad for 12 hours straight--silly me).

Knew about the NOC change, but was starting to think the worse-- like something happening to you two in transport, heaven forbide. Glad everything's okay.

I'm definitely with Del on this one, please skip arcanumcafe.com on the e-mail and credit thing. I'd much rather see the credit due money go to you folks (for upgrades and what not). Hope others feel the same.

But I would appreciate an e-mail about the upcoming back up contact website (for these unfortunate events) if possible.

Thanks for all the hard work Terra & Deb! http://www.aota.net/ubb/smile.gif

I wouldn't want to plagiarize anyone, but really, Deb, you can forget g-nm.com in your list. I know you work hard for us and I'd feel stingy if you had headaches because of those silly accounts.

I see that the American police are very conscientious http://www.aota.net/ubb/smile.gif

THANKS, THANKS, THANKS!

Well, everything is looking pretty solid and stable right now http://www.aota.net/ubb/smile.gif

The response times have also shown to be excellent http://www.aota.net/ubb/smile.gif

Much time was lost yesterday over the difficulties getting everything in place so I'll be working today to catch up and make up for the lost time... I've a new web site to put up http://www.aota.net/ubb/wink.gif

I'll also begin the emails today and try to get to everyone as soon as possible. For those waiving their refunds -- thank you -- you will get an email anyway:P

All of you are awesome!

I must say - on my 28.8 I noticed a difference! Everything loads faster than ever. The little modem lights on the icon don't blink once until a page is fully loaded - and only sites on this server do that (for the most part). I never realized that a 28.8 was even fast enough to notice. It's like putting a spoiler on a Geo to reduce drag http://www.aota.net/ubb/smile.gif

Anyway, it will be a while before you get to VDJ.Net alphabetically, so just skip that one too http://www.aota.net/ubb/smile.gif I'm just glad to know that things are improving every day http://www.aota.net/ubb/biggrin.gif

Deb:

You can bypass the "P" as in pumpkindriver while sending your emails :P

Just continue to do the best you can.. which by the way is pretty darn great.

Thank you for all that you guys do....

Boy, it sure is good to be back!

The good thing about all this is I took a day off - when was the last time THAT happened http://www.aota.net/ubb/smile.gif

No refund here - donate it to the cause. Valium, bail bond, whatever. And thanks for putting so much effort into making all this work.
