Are you going to implement the Zend PHP engine on FQ's server(s)? What benefits, drawbacks, etc. are there to using Zend?

I've been reading some on it and hear there are speed improvements, especially on larger scripts, because it does like Java and compiles them to a binary mode so they don't have to be "interpreted" as much...

What do you think about Zend, Terra? http://www.aota.net/ubb/smile.gif

Zend will probably become the core to PHP4... It was written by the 2 core programmers for PHP3...

It will be a natural evolution for this product, and we will be utilizing it when it becomes mainstream in the PHP engine...

Right now, I wouldn't use it for production use - as they are still working on it...

Zend was also done, with side revenue in mind... e.g. Give aways the Zend core engine for free - but charge for the add-ons to it like the debugger / profiler / etc...

Short answer: yes, we will be utilizing Zend when it's released and merged with the PHPx core...
