Ok... we had some script glitches this morning and the original thread was fubar.. so I am reposting the question.

Good Morning,
Dumb question of the day. Can an autoresponder .txt file send a formatted attachment, for example .htm or .lwp ?
later,
Mike

and my answer was...

Hmmm not a dumb question at all... it's actually a good question!

You can not *attach* files to your autoresponder... but you can have it autorespond with files that are not .txt

For example if I were to put a file in the .autorespond directory named test.html and setup my .qmail file with this line
|autorespond 10000 5 .autorespond/test.html .autorespond

When I send email to test@ I will receive the HTML file...

I would not really recommend this as many email programs are unable to recognize different file types... but if you do have the need.. it seems it will work.

Feel free to play around with it and let us know what you come up with. Half the fun of having your own domain is learning by experimenting http://www.aota.net/ubb//wink.gif

Hi Deb,
Thanks for your response. I have been playing around with it. I found that if I added a "From" and "Subject" line(s) above the <html> tag on the *.htm file that I want to send as an 'autoresponse', it works, (but the "From" and "Subject" show on the '.htm e-mail' that is sent.) Also need to remember that the .jpgs and the.gifs are not going with the .htm.

ps if you want to try this one, send mail to price@arcadiaflowers.com and check out the response, it should be price.htm with all of the images missing and the "From","Subject" info showing at the top of the page.
