My site is called DragonLore, and I make a shareware game called Homeland. As it turned out, there's a guy who runs a little MUD (Multi-User Dungeon) which he calls Dragonlore. He asked if it would be ok to run the game under my DomainName.

So, I've set him up with a subdirectory off of my own directory, and I'm going ahead and starting the compilation and such. I want to know if it is gonna be allright with you guys if I run this off of your server. The game is a few years old, a text-based MUD which I think has fairly small campaigns (not exactly sure how big). So I don't think it would tax the servers greatly.

My first question is whether you already know this will be a problem. If not, I wanted to let you know I was going to go ahead and try it, and you can let me know if it is or becomes a problem. Sound ok?

I would like to hold off the running of this for at least 2 weeks... Our growth over the last month has warranted installing a new server, for which the changeover should begin to commence on Wednesday 11/25... I am hoping for light traffic on Thanksgiving in order to switch out the servers...

1) how many people do you forsee connecting
2) how much CPU/Memory does this take
3) how much traffic is forseen
4) what kind of packets? (UDP/TCP)

I am not sure how to classify a MUD, and as such have no pricing structure for that... I also realize that we make no mention of it in our 'Terms of Service' - we learn as we grow... http://www.aota.net/ubb//wink.gif

As it stands now, hold off on running it until the new server is online and settled in... At that point we can evaluate it's effects on the server and/or bandwidth and continue on from there...

PS: Ummm, is there a reason they call it *MUD*??? I hope thats not in reference to how it affects a server operations... http://www.aota.net/ubb//wink.gif

OK, I'll hold off. I'll gather some more specs for you, but I'm willing to bet its a VERY small amount of memory and cpu. Like I said, its a text-based MUD (not related to how it affects the server http://www.aota.net/ubb//wink.gif), which is 2 years old. That was back when these things were in their infancy.

Thanks,
Steven
