Deb

For those who may have missed the Status Page Announcement, forum posts, or the email that was sent and for those who are well aware.... The NOC move we've been talking about is now in progress.

If you missed the information concerning this you'll certainly want to read the following two posts at:
http://www.aota.net/ubb/Forum4/HTML/000396-1.html and
http://www.aota.net/ubb/Forum4/HTML/000399-1.html

Current Status: The local tech gawds are at the current NOC now preparing to pull the systems and transport them to the new location.[nbsp][nbsp]Sites will become accessible again once the move is completed.

Here’s wishing them, and all, the best ! :D

I know that you'll be biting fingernails, pullling hair and so on, while you wait along with the rest of us.[nbsp][nbsp]BUT I am sure that all will be fine, with the staff that you've managed to put together, not to mention the Franchise Player you snagged for a lifetime ;)[nbsp][nbsp].[nbsp][nbsp]I have been checking my domains since a little before 1:00 Am EST and at 1:12 Am EST I started getting no response, but I am confident that the move will go smoothly and all will be well.[nbsp][nbsp]

(edit) At 1: 48 Am EST the "We Are Upgrading!" page started appearing on my websites !![nbsp][nbsp] What a man TeRRa is !!!![nbsp][nbsp]Thunderous Applause here!!!!

Good Luck to all the "FQ" Staff

DOH! I'm a space cadet!

I finally have/had some free time the last few hours and Im happily and busily updating my domain and stuff and suddenly I cant ftp anymore! So I look here and Viola! I forgot! :) Fortunately I had completed the major stuff 1/2 hr ago although of course at this point no one can see it anyway! Fun fun fun!
Hey good luck and we'll see you on the flipside! :)
Time for sleep.

man, I'm fully impressed. Even the "echo" page is working. Cool.

Going without e-mail is going to be tough, but I'll hit the hay now. Hopefully by the time I wake back up, it will be done. After all, noon in Florida is 9 am here in California. And I bet you left yourselves a generous amount of time. Knowing FQ, you will finish early.

Good luck and good night!

Just for curiosity's sake, what does

"I do not accept If-None-Match "

mean?

edit: It only shows when the www is included in the url.[nbsp][nbsp]

Also, I neglected to say *thank you* for the awesome efforts y'all continue to put into FQ.[nbsp][nbsp]
So,
[nbsp]Thank you!
:)

...any page loaded with the www in the url gives that message.[nbsp][nbsp]When I remove it, I get the upgrade message.

Unfortunately, since I included the www in my links, bookmarks to our site contain it.[nbsp][nbsp]My bad, I neglected to warn our users of the upcoming upgrade, so they are probably wondering... LOL.[nbsp][nbsp]Seriously, it is no big deal.[nbsp][nbsp]It's a non-profit site.[nbsp][nbsp]And a very low-traffic time. :)

Is it just me, or do you all get the feeling you have when pacing the floors in a maternity ward? LOL I feel like an expectant...aunt, heh.

Ok... most aren't see what you are seeing.[nbsp][nbsp]I've not been able to reproduce it from multiple locations.[nbsp][nbsp]TeRRa says it's probably a clash between a select few proxy or caching setups like squid (however I don't see it from our own squid cache...)

If you feel like reading a bit about it check out http://256.com/gray/docs/rfc2616/14.html RFC 2616 section 14.26[nbsp][nbsp]Not much we can do about that one but I can assure it's only going to be seen by very few....

Update The techs will be leaving the current NOC in about 20 minutes.[nbsp][nbsp]So far everything is going smoothly.[nbsp][nbsp]The easy part is about over :)

Great![nbsp][nbsp]

Isn't that funny tho?[nbsp][nbsp]I'm not using any sort of proxy, and I am getting the same message whether I use our ATT@home cable connection or our ATT worldnet dial-up. ATT probably has some strange pipe-thing LOL
I thought it might be my PC settings, but hubby gets the same on his.[nbsp][nbsp]We are behind a home firewall...

It is nothing more than a curiosity to me.[nbsp][nbsp]I love puzzles. OK..Yes, I'm a bit obsessive-compulsive too. LOL
Fortunately, my pathology is satisfied though just knowing I'm not just seeing things. <g> I am sorry to distract Terra though. <img src="http://www.aota.net/ubb/confuse.gif" alt=":/" width=15 height=15>

Congratulations on the first step. :)
Would we say we are now in the tough transition stage of labor?[nbsp][nbsp]Next comes pushing.[nbsp][nbsp]Tell Terra to Breath. ;)

Just out of interest I tried to see if I got the "I do not accept If-None-Match" message, and discovered that it only occurs on one of my sites:

rib.net

All the others work fine, which seems weird.

Never mind. It will be ancient history soon!

It seems my site which is on TAZ is still online but is not working correctly.

Since my site is using MySQL and that server is not online, I'm getting "Couldn't connect to the database." type of errors. Also, I am unable to access my E-Mail.

And worse, I get the following errors :
"MySQL Error:
Couldn't connect to the database.

Warning: Failed opening 'footer.php3' for inclusion in header.php on line 31

Warning: GLOBAL variable declaration meaningless in main() scope in incl_stats.php on line 3"

I though we were supposed to see the "echo" page until everything is ready, instead of a half-working site?

But wow! I just did a Trace Route and I really like the result :

Yeah, the "We're Upgrading" page isn't working now, and my browser looks like it's trying to go to a different address than it used to, but no web site, no server.[nbsp][nbsp]We getting close?

I just did a tracert and it showed all Qwest now (once it gets off my local ISP)... no more alter.net anywhere.[nbsp][nbsp]Did the propagation already start or is the tunneling working all the way back to my ISP?

I'm not in the habit of reading this forum very often, since FutureQuest has been so reliable.[nbsp][nbsp]That was to my disadvantage early this morning.[nbsp][nbsp]I knew nothing about the planned downtime until I came here to find out why I couldn't FTP.

Will someone please make sure I'm on the email notification list?[nbsp][nbsp]I know it's possible for an email to get lost among any of the dozen or more computers that may handle it before it's delivered.[nbsp][nbsp]So maybe you did send one, but please make sure.

And yes, I'll start reading this forum more regularly.

Other than this, I've had no trouble since becoming a FutureQuest customer six months ago.[nbsp][nbsp]You're leagues ahead of most other web hosts.

Hi rick-k:

We sent a notice to the email address we have on file for each account. After everything is back to normal, you may want to toss an email to the service desk:
http://service.futurequest.net/tech/support/people to be sure that we have the correct primary email address on file, as this is where the invoices and all other mailings would go.

Thanks,

I do not accept If-None-Match message early on, then no access or default pages displayed at all through the night.

Can access email, and ASTRO via telnet, all the files still there![nbsp][nbsp]No http though.

Everything is plugged in and most things are "up" but everything is not completed yet.[nbsp][nbsp]We're almost done but for all intents and purposes consider the move still "progress in progress" things will start to clear themselves out for you within the next hour or so.

All things seem right on schedule...nothing early, but nothing falling too far behind either :)

Deb
[nbsp]- Flip the switch already!

Justin

All of the servers are in their new location and are powered up. Currently TeRRa is still at the new NOC, reconfiguring each server to listen on their new IPs as well as the old ones (for the tunnelling).

Those who's DNS is updated will be able to see their sites as soon as each server is brought back online. Those who's DNS is cached will be forwarded through the tunnel once that is up and running, which will most likely happen on schedule (or at worst, not much later) at 12:00 noon.

All in all, things have gone quite smoothly. We had a few minor unexpected problems, one of which was the DNS not wanting to work properly right away, but we have stayed pretty close to the planned schedule. I'm now back home and TeRRa is finishing up with the configurations. As far as the move itself (physical), it's done :)

I have no idea what's up with the "Upgrading" page. As for email, all mail on TAZ is currently down (though TAZ himself is up). Email on other servers may or may not work - but once all is said and done, it will be back up.

I'd lean toward the idea that there's still mail in the queue.[nbsp][nbsp]It'll keep trying all day until it gets everything delivered.[nbsp][nbsp]There will be quite a back log due to the amount of time the mail servers were unavailable so you may want to expect mail throughout the day if you are the type who receives a bunch of it.[nbsp][nbsp]There shouldn't be any losses though :)

Deb
[nbsp]- Going and going and going and...

PaulKroll

And at this time I can log into Phoenix via telnet, but the mysql02 server doesn't recognize my password (though mysql02 is pingable and I've double-checked my pw spelling/case).

And when I point IE at my domain, it looks like it's seeing the new IP (w/the "connecting to 63.95.221.75" in the status bar), but still doesn't connect. Returns in just a moment with an error. (Before, at about 1:00 in the morning, I was getting the "we're moving" message, but that's gone now.)

I'm sure it'll all be fine soon.[nbsp][nbsp]If you're like, two minutes late though, I believe my terms of service say that FQ will buy me a Porsche Boxster.

(Well I can dream, can't I? :) )

One thing to note, when we say you should be seeing your sites, if you are still not able to, you may want to reboot your system.[nbsp][nbsp]Some boxes tend to cache entries they really shouldn't cache (windows) and if this is the case a good reboot (or just a plain ol kick) may do the trick.

The more you visit while down...the longer it takes to see it when it up.[nbsp][nbsp]Strange but true...

Deb
[nbsp]- Going to re-read terms of service :P

PaulKroll
09-03-2000, 12:32 PM
You can safely skip re-reading the ToS. :)

Rebooted and deleted my IE cache. Still shows the IP, but doesn't get a page. Course, since via telnet mysql02 still doesn't recognize my pw, I'd not expect ALL the site to work yet(a fair amount uses php/mysql02 for session tracking), but I pointed it at a static page just To Be Sure.

Can anyone else see http://www.eatright.com/browsertrouble.html ? I'd not be surprised if my ISP (Mediaone/AT&amp;T) had some bizarre caching scheme I wasn't aware of in the way. (I'm not pointed at a proxy cache, FYI, but that doesn't mean they don't have something between me and the net.)

Not all servers are completed yet.[nbsp][nbsp]About 1/2 of the sites are up right now..the other half are being worked on now....

If you did not receive the email it indicates we do not have your email address on file.[nbsp][nbsp]Whatever FutureQuest shows as the "Primary Contact" for a domain (this would be where the invoices are sent) is where the email went...

If you believe we have the wrong contact email address on the file please send an email to Service@FutureQuest.net after everything is back up and running and let us know so that we may make updates accordingly where needed. Note that resold accounts wouldn't receive the emails as they would go to the reseller....

Moke, try again..it's up now :)

TAZ, SIX, NINE, SEVEN, ASTRO, PHOENIX, DEXTER, DEEDEE, MYSQL01 should all be workin for your web sites now.

There may be other various smaller issues such as was noted with couters but the sites themselves are in fact being delivered :)

MYSQL02 et al is being worked on now.

Not to be a party pooper, but I'm intermittently getting very delayed and somewhat slow connections to a few sites on SEVEN and this forum (DEEDEE now?).[nbsp][nbsp]Some pages appear unavailable briefly within a site (404 and 500 errors), then come back alive...

Would those be DNS issues, Terra-Tweaking, or something else?

Need an estimated time on SSL being fixed.
I believe we paid more for SSL over what it costs to have just content.

Content may be a priority to some, but I believe making money is a priority to everyone. Are you a volunteer for FutureQuest? Am sure people consider their paychecks priority and am sure the owners of FutureQuest are in this business to make money.

Not trying to be snippy, just stating facts.

andreas yes... I just responded...Our email was queued and is just now being caught up.

Bill reload... tis fixed (was separate issue... your site is on DEEDEE)

Moke.. he's working on it now.[nbsp][nbsp]The reason SSL didn't have the same priority as 'content' is because EVERYONE on the servers has content and if their domain names aren't working then the SSL wouldn't either, so the Apaches had to come online before the SSL could work at all....

Deb

Some of my sites are not yet functional, or only partly functional, and I would just like to know what's happening. I know the FQ staff are doing their best and explanations are probably somewhere in this thread but I just can't wade through it all.
