PHOENIX had some problems early this morning due to a drive overflow...

It appears that someone used a "borrowed" account, and proceeded to FTP (high-speed) over 3Gigs of pirated DVD/DIVX movies into the /var mount (/var/tmp) of the server...[nbsp][nbsp]The directory was well hidden and caution was taken for it's removal...

The damage caused was primarly a loss of Apache logs, as the pipes got backed up and spilled over into /dev/null...

I would like to take a moment and stress highly that you keep your account password to yourself, and do not share it with anyone...[nbsp][nbsp]What was once your best friend today, could turn out to be your enemy tomorrow and wreak havoc in various ways...

The account has been terminated, and the server has been reset to stabilize everything...

Our apologies for the problems this has caused...

Dear Terra,

We need to change all the passwords? In other words, somebody can have access to the password files?

Thank you, Pablo...

No, the password files have not compromised.... however, the password of this particular domain seems to have been.

The key is, for your own protection, it is wise to use passwords that do not spell real words and are both alpha characters and numeric and as "meaningless" as possible.[nbsp][nbsp]It is also wise to change your password from time to time and not to use the same password as you would use for other things.[nbsp][nbsp]These are all common security precautions that should be taken with any sensitive information.

Andrew is simply trying to remind all that you should take your private information seriously and be careful with it :)
