When a server goes down, does that mean it will lose all mail sent to it in the meantime?

Since no one else has gotten to this, Terra has explained previously that the mail is retained in a spool of sorts (that's as technical as my explanation will get :P ).[nbsp][nbsp]You can probably find something by searching the forum.

DEXTER is still being worked on ETA still unknown although I do expect it to be soon.

As Dan previously mentioned, there should be no loss of data or email. Once we are back up and operational, everything should catch up and be as normal.

Again ... our sincere apologies for the inconvenience.

Ahhhh, it appears that the Baby of the "FQ" family is back up and running, this appeared to be a major temper tantrum.[nbsp][nbsp]I am sure that Daddy (TeRRa) and Mom (Deb) will counsel our small child on appropriate behavior![nbsp][nbsp] ;)

Yeppers, DEXTER is back up and fully operational.[nbsp][nbsp]I'm sure there'll be a better update as to the details when TeRRa returns from the NOC. :)

Well, the "news" is probably nothing even close to what you may be thinking but this is FQ so we're not going to candy coat the issue.[nbsp][nbsp]The server lockup was pretty much just a "fluke".[nbsp][nbsp]E.g. it froze and needed a manual push to bring it back up.[nbsp][nbsp]The delay was due to human error and not severe server problems, after all DEXTER has been purring like a kitten for over a month.[nbsp][nbsp]It seems it just demanded a break at the most inconvenient time.[nbsp][nbsp]The server is more than fine (that's a good thing!).

The Humans on the other hand were quite a ways from the alert systems due to a move we've been going through all weekend.[nbsp][nbsp]Justin & Lori have been doing a GREAT job keeping things a float while TeRRa and I moved our home & office.[nbsp][nbsp]Unfortunately the phones etc at our new home weren't completely connected up yet and we got caught at "the worst moment" with DEXTER locking.[nbsp][nbsp](Long story) but everything is back up and going now thanks to Justin & Lori taking the manual journey to snag TeRRa and get him back to the NOC etc...

I'll avoid "the whole story" but the basics are the humans required to fix the problem weren't available as fast as they should have been.[nbsp][nbsp]We're going to go ahead and credit everyone on the DEXTER server a full month's worth of hosting fees in an effort to show our sincerity when we say -- We apologize for this unfortunate circumstance.

Deb
[nbsp]- On a good note -- The truck is finally unloaded !

Deb and TeRRa, I certainly agree with Benj,[nbsp][nbsp]But I see no need to issue any credit for the domain I have on Dexter.[nbsp][nbsp]If I'm not mistaken Dexter was down for about two hours, which equals a little less than .3%. I understand "FQ's" standards and drive for perfection, BUT sometimes things happen.[nbsp][nbsp]I for one applaud the openness of "FQ" which is one of the reasons I am here!!![nbsp][nbsp]:)

Keep up the Good Work

Man, I wish I was on DEXTER so I could second Bob's sentiment and tell you to keep the change![nbsp][nbsp]:)[nbsp][nbsp]Oh well...[nbsp][nbsp]Hope the rest of the move goes a little less eventfully.

Deb-

With today's outage and a few alter.net glitches near my end recently, your rating fell to an all time low 100% satisfaction level on my hosting scale...

now you go and do something like that and I'm back in paradise - you guys are the best, even when moving :)

When I noticed the problem with a domain on Dexter yesterday, I ran a traceroute and saw the bottle neck at alter.net in Atlanta. Once past that, the trace appeared to go all the way to my domain OK.

How is it that the trace managed to get all the way to Dexter if the server was down?
