View Full Version : Thanks to my ISP...

There is a new hack on this UBB now... My ISP caches content, including the UBB (totally ignoring the "no-cache" headers). Rather than having to see a page load, notice my new post didn't show up, and having to hit Reload, I added a hack that appends a ?No_Cache=(random string here) to the URL. This way, cache's see it as a different URL each time and do not serve the cached content.
The only real drawback is all topics will appear as unvisited links in the forum display page... but for those behind a caching proxy, there will be no more reloading necessary :) (and those with funky browsers).
Lemme know if any problems pop up as a result...

Justin-
Can those of us who don't need to worry about this sort of thing turn it off? I really want to know which threads I've visited and which I haven't, and I don't like the fact that every time I switch between pages it reloads.
So start coding a preference hack for this, so the lucky fools who don't get cached can get on like we was used to! ;)

I agree with Jacob, this is too 'off' for those w/o the cache problems as it takes the intended functionality of visited/non-visited links away from us......[nbsp][nbsp]It's like allowing someone elses broken code to force us to break our own so it'll work (AOL's email system comes to mind).
It would be a nice option for those with a cache problem... but I think the way it was should be the default....
'twas a g'idea...

Ok, I've changed it now. If you have problems with a cache, be it your ISP or browser, click on Preferences and select "yes" for "Make URL's Unique". Otherwise it will work as always.
If you find yourself having to reload to see your post, or even just to see the latest additions, you will probably want to select this option. It simply sets a cookie to enable the feature. The default, of course, is off.
Sorry for the inconvenience.
