I'm not sure which server that is, but I haven't been able to reach my homepage for over an hour ( www.randommouse.com (http://www.randommouse.com) ).

Is anyone else having any problems or is it just me?

Yes, there was in fact a problem.... it affected about 90 domains.

One of the apache daemons 'stoped' for lack of a better term... it has now been fixed.

My apologies for this one...

Sorry for the delay on responding to this...

The problem was confirmed to be a problem in the FQguardian program...

The system has many custom safety fuses wired into it now, to help minimize extended downtime by preventing server crashes... The FQguardian trips the breaker when things begin to get out of control from malfunctioning or badly written CGI/PHP3 scripts... It will let the server cool off for 30sec to 3min and then bring the Apaches back online...

In this instance, the FQguardian caught a runaway CGI script and shut it down, but when restarting it fired up all but one due to a stale pid file...

I have written further (kill 0 => $pid) checks within the program to avoid this situation... This quick hack will be replaced by a full supervisory daemon suite of tools that is currently being written...

With the new server architecture, FQguardian will go through many changes as it will be monitoring up to 70 individual Apache pools...

I wonder if I wasn't the cause of my own demise last night. I recently uploaded my customized UBB and was testing it out last night. My (at home) Xitami web server and Netscape browser must be very forgiving in their acceptance of loosely-written CGI code, because in a couple of cases I forgot to put in the all important Content-Type: header and it all worked fine.

But when I uploaded it to the Apache server I got 'malformed header' responses. Would that have been enough to cause the problem? Anyway, I fixed those up. I apologize if I was the culprit. On the other hand it seems unlikely to me that a missing header or two could do that much harm. Don't hesitate to advise me if I'm wrong.

I wouldn't think so, I believe I've got the runaway CGI scripts pretty much under control... It's the PHP3 that is giving me fits... Our next generation of Apache engines will have this fixed as I have been hacking the source code to handle these locomotive PHP3 files...

Hello Kabie,

I am unable to connect to my server, and mail is down as well. Help?!?!

In Reference: blaircedar.com

After further research into this problem, I have found that your domain is on HOLD with Internic for non-payment... You will need to contact Internic and make payment before they will release your domain back into the root DNS servers...

Please visit: http://rs.internic.net/pay/

I wish I could be of more assistance, but this now falls into Internic's arena as we have no authority over this issue...
