Ok -- I've watched Terra 'explain' things until I'm blue in the keyboard hehe... this is my attempt to give a totally non-tech idea of what's happening around the server.
Our priority right now is getting all of the existing accounts off of the 'taz' server and onto the 'six' server. The servers have names just like ships at sea do http://www.aota.net/ubb/smile.gif The current server (taz) is on a sprintlink backbone... the new server (six) is on the UUnet backbone.
I've watched many hosts have to make moves like this and do the re-numbering (meaning changing all of the domain IP addys and move them to a different server) and I feel safe in saying 80% of these hosts have had a rough road in pulling it off. The majority get snagged and end up leaving over half of the sites unreachable for days or weeks....
What we are doing is trying to make sure we go slow enough to prevent any major problems. At the same time we want to quickly get everyone moved to the new server! This means we are moving certain sites over manually right now.. as Terra said, these sites take around an hour or two to move. The site is taken down during the move and then brought back up in its new home http://www.aota.net/ubb/smile.gif
The site owner has nothing to worry about as all of the work is done by Terra and they need only hang out while it's being done http://www.aota.net/ubb/smile.gif Now the first domains to move are the ones that find the 'bugs' in this process and pave the road for the rest to move flawlesly.
Once we have gone through the process of moving multiple domains manually he will then write the scripts to move the rest automatically ..... this is when we will make the big bulk move take place. From what we can tell so far each domain should experience no more then 2 hours of being 'down' (not really down in the tech sense but while waiting for the dns to propagate you may not be able to see your site), which is why we try to do this during the night hours rather then mid-day.
This is also what is delaying the new accounts -- We do not have the automatic routines to set-up new accounts on the new server and can not see setting them up on the old server only to move them. Setting them each up manually would only take time away from getting the current domains moved.
Once this is done we will be working on two things -- One getting the SSL opened up and two putting the taz server into another NOC to handle more domains (this is a goal not a promise)
The final destination is moving into an OC-12 NOC that is still being built. This is estimated to be about 3 or 4 months away. The OC-12 is to be the 'final' move http://www.aota.net/ubb/smile.gif
I hope this makes a bit of sense http://www.aota.net/ubb/smile.gif

p.s. If it doesn't make sense, think of it this way -- One night you will go to sleep -- while asleep we are going to pack up the contents of your virtual home and move them into a brand new home. We will also do all of the un-packing for you and when you wake up everything will be right where you left it only in a brand new shiny house http://www.aota.net/ubb/wink.gif
