What took everyone so long to get here?

Let us take a deep breath! Things do happen and much of it is not our/their control.

Ok -- Here is where we are at right now....

1. Obviously Sprintlink is back up now http://www.aota.net/ubb/smile.gif (bout time) Expect some spurts of slowness as they clear out the clogging that is bound to be here after being out for such a long period of time.

2. Some of you were able to find the FutureQuest.org site that Andrew rigged up for us today... by going there you can catch up on a thread that took place this afternoon. www.futurequest.org/cgi-bin/Ultimate.cgi (http://www.futurequest.org/cgi-bin/Ultimate.cgi)

3. The FutureQuest.net email is down right now. Andrew seriously hacked up the site to make .org work... he FINALLY fell asleep about 1 hour ago. He NEEDS to be asleep as he had been up since early yesterday morning. I'll get to email when he awakens and can reset our own site up.

4. As soon as he has had rest he will begin saying GOOD BYE to Sprintlink! Around 3am this morning we were able to successfully transfer 3 domains over to the UUnet backbone... they did great all day today (lucky them) We'll be moving the rest of you/us over as quickly as we possibly can.

5. The question of refunds has come up. No we can not guarantee lines outside of our control... the lines that caused this disaster were WAY OUTSIDE of our control http://www.aota.net/ubb/frown.gif I do plan on trying to give you all something to at least show that we do care and do know how nasty situations like this are. Once I've had a chance to go over everything and see that all of the domains are off of Sprint I'll try to do something to make up for this. Sprintlink doesn't refund us for things like this http://www.aota.net/ubb/frown.gif and we could never afford to get you all onto the higher dollar UUnet w/o payments but we will be doing something, this I promise you.

Other then that I don't know what to say -- I'm just glad to be getting rid of Sprint and can only hope that you guys will stick around to see the progress.

Truly sorry for this --

Deb

Like I said on the .org forums, you guys are awesome. You get some rest, too, Deb -- you deserve it!

I still love FutureQuest,

Deb, I'd rather you not worry about a refund. A dollar or two to me won't matter, but if you multiply that by everyone, I'm sure it matters to you. This is just my 2 cents, of course, but I'd rather you use the money to get set and stable (which you seem to be doing everything you can to do).

I wanted to thank you for making the other forum available. It was so great to have a place to go to find current info. The worst thing is not knowing why.

When I can get back into my site, I'd like to post your 2 messages telling what happened. I think it would help in convincing my users that you guys are honest and capable and that things happen on the Net that are beyond my/your control. My posters are pretty much computer innocent, shall we say, and seem to think, when they can't get in to read the message board, or when things are very slow, that it's the result of a vast, right wing conspiracy -- or whatever.

BTW, we're not quite up. I got in about 20 minutes ago (Shock! Great surprise!) after a randon check, but when I hit the back button, I got "connection with server..." message. Tried to get in again and couldn't. This may be part of the ebb and flow, or it may not. Thought you should know.

Thanks again.

who's sticking

Thanks ....

I do expect things to be a lil shaky for a few ... For 11 hours ppl have been sending data that can only get 'stuck'.. now that it can move there is a LOT of data to move through so it's most certainly going to be 'clogged' while it sorts itself out.

This affected a LOT of ppl (it is still affecting many areas) so it's more then 'just' what FutureQuest sites have put into it... a lot more.

I assume over the next few hours they'll get it all flowing again.

A note on email] Our QMail system just stores the mail... it hasn't lost any yet http://www.aota.net/ubb/smile.gif What it will do since there will undoubtably be a tremendous amount of mail in the system is just keep delivering in chunks until it gets cought up itself. It sends the current mail going through first and 'stuffs' as much of the 'waiting' mail through each time..... you should have all of your mail from today by morning.

You don't have to give me.. or credit me one thin dime for me to realize you guys care. KEEP IT!

... and can only hope that you guys will stick around to see the progress

I'll be here till the bitter end.. in fact, my business with you will only grow. Have a great evening Deb (and that geeky guy there with you http://www.aota.net/ubb/smile.gif)

Ditto on that - give it to the pizza guy http://www.aota.net/ubb/smile.gif

I am just glad Sprint Link will soon be a long lost memory for all of us http://www.aota.net/ubb/smile.gif I feel bad for customers of other web hosting companies who were down as well - I'm sure they are still wondering where their hosts went!

I'll be here for as long as I have a site (that's a threat, not a promise http://www.aota.net/ubb/smile.gif)

Every time I see down time, I do a tracert and see it's SprintLink's fault... again. SprintLink sucks. FutureQuest rocks. 'Nuff said.

Keep my "something to show we care", Deb; we still know you care! I'm signing up another domain tonight.

... well, OK, I'll wait till the order form comes back up. http://www.aota.net/ubb/wink.gif

Let me just add my voice to the chorus of those who'd rather "let our bets ride" than get any sort of credit/refund from FQ for something that was Sprintlink's problem.

I think the move to UUnet will be enough of a "credit" for me. :-)

Good morning everyone, I will be spending most of the day cleaning up the mess from last night... It appears that the link by Deb from above 'FutureQuest.org' is broken, this was from all the creative DNS work...

My first concern is getting the email back on track, the only domain affected by an email problem is FutureQuest.net/com/org as I had to reset our MX records to a bogus mail99 mail handler... It will take up to 2 hours for everyone to see the updated changes...

STATS are currently being run, and expect everyones will be updated by 1:00pm EST (expect some slowness from the server as this is a very **heavy** processing task)

I expect to be back on track with the upgrades late tonight, it takes an average of 1.5 hours per domain to shift to the new server and upgrade for new architecture...

I would like to say thanks for everyone's support and due diligence through this unforseen ordeal... It could have been far worse than what it was... Deb and I could focus our energies on getting a makeshift communications site up, instead of handling hostile customers wondering what we broke this time... http://www.aota.net/ubb/smile.gif Our site owners are the greatest, though I expect patience is growing thin... We try to skate very lightly on the thin ice that the Internet freezes under our feet...

Greetings from someone that has just rebooted his brain,

It was me, I brought the whole system down trying to execute a COBOL "Hello World" program. My apologies.

I just wanted to say thanks to FQ for making a great effort at trying to notify everybody of the mess that was going on.

Today,
Andrew Gillespie(PartOwner/Systems Adminstrator) for a fast moving up and comer in the Internet "virtual hosting" arena has once again displayed a versatility that is unmatched by his peers.

Mr.Gillespie(AKA Andrew, Terra)proves that in this sometimes pressure cooker style atmosphere.. it is possible to manuever between the "rigid geek speaking" duties often conjured in ones mind, to a softer... poetic side.

Unheard of in todays competition packed world known as the Internet.. FutureQuest continues to break new ground.

Stay tuned for updated reports as details come in..
