I have a UBB user who is getting frustrated with her frequent multiple submits - she isn't clicking the button more than once deliberately.[nbsp][nbsp]I suggested she clean her mouse, which she has, but the problem persisits.[nbsp][nbsp]She says it's about 6 months old; I suggested it could be malfunctioning, even though not "worn out" and explained how to tab and use enter in lieu of mouse clicks . . . but is there anything else that would cause this problem, something else I could advise her about?

You may want the user to define for you what "click once" means to them. Many times when I ask this question they respond with something like "I clicked just once the same way I click everything else, like when I run an application or open a file in Windows exporer." They were, of course, describing one double "click" and not one single "click". :)

If this really is a hardware problem, it would surface everywhere and not just in the UBB application.

I was going to create a hack to prevent double posting by assigning an ID to each post when you click the reply button - and if any post is posted more than once (with the same ID) it would only post once... but we don't really have that problem on this UBB very often so I scrapped the project...

I suspect it's the double click - my sister, for months, was double clicking links in IE thinking that was the way it was done... and I believe that is a common problem amongst "newbies".

Another common problem that has snagged me once or twice is when a user hits Submit, immediately realizes a spelling error, and hit's back and edits the post... resulting of course in a double post. Or even just hitting back and telling the browser "Yes", go ahead and repost the form data.

There are many reasons for double posting, and one is also a bug in certain versions of the UBB (don't remember which ones though) where they pop up on their own...

Oh well, hope this helps :)

Oh, another thing - I always use tab-tab-tab-tab-space, which snaggs me at other UBB's because we have one extra checkbox (disable autolinks...) - so I often times at other UBB's accidentally hit "Clear Fields" - argh![nbsp][nbsp]How annoying that is...

I should have clarified, that the multiple posts were 4-5 posts per effort, not simply duplicates.

As a side note to keep in mind for problems such as this where the code may not be the problem -- I've found that many people setup their mice/trackballs to double click on a single click.... this rarely thought about 'feature' is often the cause of double postings to many areas on the net:/
