I frequently use the File Manager download option for single or small downloads. I use the FTP options when I need to work with bigger operations as directories or several files; with the aid of gFTP application.
So I think that downloading compressed files for small quantities is not useful for me, and takes time and work the process of unzip the resulting tarballs. I don't mean that the compressed option is unnecesary, but I suggest to add the single option as the more practical.
