I have a client whose current webhost company does not support RealAudio.

He's created a promotional video with some football players and himself. He is wanting to reduce the video for online by sectioning it into several little avi files. I.E. each of the players and himself on individual .avi files.

Now his webhosting company said to try www.emblaze.com (http://www.emblaze.com) or www.bibo.com (http://www.bibo.com) The bibo.com seems to be a hosting company. Nonetheless, I'm not familiar with either. Is anyone else familiar with them? Have other ideas/suggestions for handling the video?

Thank you in advance,

Elizabeth

Best place to see who can offer the best audio/video features outside of the standard G2 servers would be to hit some of the host directories like hostsearch.com/hostinvestigator.com/webhostdir.com etc... there's quite a few of them out there now... hostinvestigator and webhostdir.com both have pretty active forums that would probably get you a faster response... They can be extra picky about hosts around those places <grin> so you know if you do get positive feedback about one of them it's probably for real http://www.aota.net/ubb/smile.gif

Another video standard which is pretty common is Quicktime. It's got some great compression ratios if you use Sorenson in Quicktime 3.

Since Quicktime is a regular file, you don't need to have a special server like G2 Streaming Server to serve it. Apache will do... plus it includes Streaming, which means that your movie will start to play even before it is fully downloaded.

Hi,
There is a new Microsoft technolgy coming with media player. The extension is *.asx .
although it is newer than G2 it is spreading very faast. I noticed that the quality is really good. IE5 has a built in radio player on the menu which uses this technology, and microsoft has a media portal at: http://webevents.microsoft.com/default.asp

I like the radio guide there by the way, and i am using it.
What I don't know is how to develop using it. What are the requirements and how expensive it is...??
Next month I am lanning to read the details from microsofts page...
This might be worth to look at it...

If your client doesn't care about accesses from people on Macintoshes, then Microsoft's Media Player would be the way to go.

Emblaze uses a Java-based player, I believe, so as long as the user has Java turned on it will work. That's a pretty cross-platform technology there.

If you want to make the content available to the largest amount of people, use Emblaze (no plugin), Quicktime (needs plugin), or RealVideo (needs plugin).

Thank you everyone for your responses. I will take them to my client and see what he wants to do. http://www.aota.net/ubb/smile.gif

I liked how fast the Emblaze loaded, from the client sites that they listed. But I'm not ruling out other options. http://www.aota.net/ubb/smile.gif

thank again,

Hi Jacop,
I am surprised that microsoft doesn't have media player for apple. Since they embedded the media player to IE5 I guess they'll create one also. the only problem will be the unix platforms... http://www.aota.net/ubb/smile.gif But who cares about them... (I am using an SGI workstation at work)
I think, realplayer also has an apple version.
