I installed Gallery (http://gallery.menalto.com/) v1.5.7 years ago, following these instructions (http://www.aota.net/forums/showthread.php?t=14372). I haven't touched the config since then. I thought I'd have a look at the config to see about maybe changing things a bit but when I try logging into the Configuration Wizard access is forbidden. I had another look at the instructions and it looks like the last step, "$ sh secure.sh" locked down the config. Probably what I need to do is telnet in and issue the command "$ sh configure.sh" but (a) I'm now on a Mac and don't know how to telnet, and (b) I gather from reading through aota topics that telnet is no longer supported, anyway. So what do I do?

Binky, what you want to do is use SSH instead of telnet, and the Mac offers a builtin utility for this.

Binky,

You also should upgrade your installation as the current version of Gallery G1 is 1.5.10 (http://sourceforge.net/projects/gallery/files/gallery/1.5.10/)

Also the newer versions of Gallery allow you to place your Gallery into config mode (and take it out) from a link in your Admin panel, it no longer requires SSH access...

Thanks, both.

Bob, do I upgrade by uploading the new files over the old? If so, so I need to change any permissions first?

Re my last question, I found the documentation. I changed the permissions as directed and tried to upload the new files over the old using Transmit. It seemed to be working but at the end Transmit reported several errors where access was denied. It seems that my Gallery install is still 1.5.7

Your Gallery needs to be in Config mode in order to update IIRC...

Sorry to still be such an ignoramus. I used terminal to get into config mode, chmoded htaccess, config.php, and the setup directory. Uploaded all the files successfully. Changed to secure mode, chmoded back, and I still appear to be running v. 1.5.7

Binky,

I have an idea what may have happened, possibly... However it probably would be best discussed in a ticket to the Service Desk (Service@FutureQuest.net).

OK, I finally got the new files uploaded in the proper directory, overwriting the old version files. But now I appear to have a brand new install of Gallery, as opposed to an upgrade. The config wizard is asking me to create new htaccess and config.php files, an empty albums folder, etc.

Never mind . . . all is well.
