Here's my prob:
I actually got UBB installed ALL BY MYSELF!

(SUNG IN THAT MUSICAL DIAPER COMMECIAL TUNE: Mommy, WOW! I'm a big boy now! http://www.aota.net/ubb/smile.gif)

One thing though, I went to set the variables for the first time and after all of this variable-ing I get asked for a Username & Password! It says if you don't have it, just enter your default username and password, BUT I have NO IDEA about what "default Username & Password" they are talking about. Please help so I can get UBB up!

Thanks BUNCHES and BUNCHES and OODLES and OODLES,
-Bi4Be

PS: I LOOOVVVEEEE that great feeling I got from installing my first CGI script all by myself! It was one of those heavenly Woo Hoo! moments! http://www.aota.net/ubb/smile.gif

The default supplied with the board for everyone is:

username: Admin5

Thanks! But I just messed it up again, so I will be doing EVERYTHING all over agaiin tomorrow. http://www.aota.net/ubb/frown.gif

What I did was I went and changed the password and e-mail address at the same time and it said that is not allowed and it will send a new password to my new address. Well guess what never arrived? Yep, you guessed it so I actually locked myself out of all admin control... but I guess after I stop swearing in anger I'll come to the realisation that mistakes happen. http://www.aota.net/ubb/frown.gif Grrrrrrr.......

Thanks for everyone's help,

Bi4Be:

After you have set all of the variable etc. using the Admin5-4tugboat sign in.. physically go to your own board as anyone else would and register yourself. Then go to the control panel/user permissions and using the Admin5-4tugboat sign in.. give yourself administrator privileges. Then once again go to control panel/user permissions using YOUR own sign in and delete Admin5 as a user.

Clear as mud?

I tried that, but my 4tugboat pass doesn't work because the prgram assigned me a new password and said it was sending it to my e-mail address. Then it never arrived...

So I don't think I have any other choice than re do the whole thing unless I could edit the Members directory manually or something...

Not sure I follow you..
But I think you may be confused on a couple aspects of installation.
Again.. if you want me to take a look, I will.

As a side note:
Files in the Members directory can be edited.

You will want to set email functions in the general variables to use sendmail.

I was just going through my Members directory and found out my password, it was some weirdo computer generated one.

Thanks so much for the offer Paul! You rock my world! But I some how accidentally figured it out on my own! LOL!

Well... that's CGI beginners for ya...

Maybe someone can help me (batting my lashes as I type)...

I'm installing the UBB freeware version (I want to try installing it before buying it).

I get to setting my variables for the first time, and I get this:

Error including required files: (Maybe you didn't strip carriage returns after a network transfer?) Make sure these files exist, permissions are set properly, and paths are set correctly.

I have done the latter 3 suggestions... but "striping my carraiage returns" has me stumped! Besides being clueless... I have no earthly idea what that means, or what I'm to do.

Has anyone had this error happen to them, or know how to fix it?

Thanks! http://www.aota.net/ubb/smile.gif

This is the single most common error across the net. Smile -- You're not alone http://www.aota.net/ubb/smile.gif

Odds are that you did not upload the files in ASCII. Try re-uploading them only this time make sure you specifically tell the FTP program to upload in ASCII... that should take care of it.

Thanks Deb!

Although... I did U/L in ASCII. I even have the .cgi, .pl, .file etc.. to my ftp "ASCII" files.

I'm going to try U/Ling those files all over again. Fresh start. :-)

Danke!
Mo :-)
