We're currently trying to decide between the two. The two biggest differences that will affect us are the blog integration and number of hacks. What I like about IPB and their blogging feature is an outside blogger can make a blog post once, but it will show up on our board as well as their personal blog. I know the basic version of VB's blogging add on doesn't have this feature, and I have not been able to find a hack for it. I do think the VB has the edge in hacks overall though. They seem to have more hacks dealing with user management, like the miserable user hack which I haven't been able to find for IPB. Currently we don't have a blog feature because we're just a straight up forum, but we're expanding our content and it seems to be a great way to get more varied content on the site. Switching software is such an incredible hassle I only want to do it once, so I really don't want to be disappointed in whatever choice we ultimately make.
My questions are these:
For those of you with experience do you think either software has the edge in their blogging add on?
Is there a hack for VB for the one blog post scenario I described above?
Is there a miserable user type hack for IPB?
Also, which software do you think has an edge in using social networking as far as members being able to take a post and put it on twitter or facebook?
I understand that FQ uses VB and it's very popular forum software. I appreciate any and all help or opinions. Thanks!
