What extension is required for the fq server to properly execute ssi calls? Does fq members have crontab access??

Hello MDB,

.shtml is used for ssi and yes we do allow cron jobs... but I have to ask you again if you are in fact hosted on the FQuest server.

We only provide support for those hosted on this server.... if you can not state publically whom you are please email aota@aota.net and let me know...

thanks
Deb

hey MDB...

you make it sound like you are not too familiar with FQ. There was a thread open on this the other day, http://www.aota.net/ubb/Forum3/HTML/000153.html

share with us your URL so we can check you out! *grin*

Let's see... First we had a discussion of why not to allow HTML in a guestbook, and now an anonymous individual is asking about SSI and Cron jobs - I don't like this.

Identify yourself, Private! That's an order http://www.aota.net/ubb/smile.gif

All joking aside, if he were asking about <table> tags or something, it wouldn't bother me, but asking how to run commands via HTML is a little scary...

Hmmmm,

Fascinating - I thought I was simply asking a legitimate question. I had no idea it would cause such an up-roar. Interesting indeed!

Deb, you mention that "but I have to ask you again if you are in fact hosted on the FQuest server."

I went and looked for all the messages I have posted here on this message board and found the following threads that I started:

http://www.aota.net/ubb/Forum1/HTML/000096.html

http://www.aota.net/ubb/Forum1/HTML/000072.html

http://www.aota.net/ubb/Forum1/HTML/000092.html

In reviewing your replies to those messages Deb, I do not see where you have in the past asked me to identify myself.

I must admit that initially I found it curious and refreshing that you would answer my questions without any suspicion as to who I was, or what my motives were. At that particular junction I assumed that it was just part of the open, and friendly nature of the message boards that you have here at aota.net.

I found a link to these boards on multiple pages of the FQ site, where it seems to encourage potential clients to visit here and seek more information.

NO I am not a Future Quest client, which is why the few times I have posted here, I have done so on the message boards, that do not require a FQ password. I am simply a man, considering using FQ as one of my web hosting companies, nothing more, nothing less.

I lurk on this the AOTA boards daily, but until such time as I become a FQ client I will do my best to control my urge to post messages here!

Have a nice weekend everybody!

The post I was referring to where I ask if you were hosted here is at http://www.aota.net/ubb/Forum3/HTML/000093.html because our support is based on these servers...

We do not have a problem with people visiting by any means.... the concern is in the fact that I had asked before and received no reply.... tonight you asked questions that caused some alarm so we asked again.

There are others that post here often who are not hosted by FQuest... they also know that we may or may not be able to help them with scripting etc that is on a different server.... we as the support team for FQuest also have to make sure we are not taking away from the time owed to the site owners hosted by us to support a site that is not hosted by us... that would just hurt costs.

At any rate -- this was merly an honest question so we knew. This being the second time it was asked is where the concern came from

Hope this makes sense

Deb

Hey Justin,

I am the one who asked about security risks when selecting options installing CGI. One of my scripts had the option to allow html or not to allow html and then the author of the script had personal warning advising against allowing html. I didn't realize that there was such a potential and wasn't hoping to educate anyone in a bad way. And you guys were all so cool about answering. http://www.aota.net/ubb/smile.gif

Now MDB, this is a great community forum. If you lurked here on a daily basis, then in my honest opinion, you would have known the answer to your questions. *really*

I find it most peculiar that you took the defense. If you lurk here, you will see that we are a great team of people, and when our host gets to showing concern, you will observe how we will come together for them.

I read in your profile that you have been posting here since December 27th. But there was no site added in your profile. That wasn't to offer you heartache when I asked.. we ask this of each other all the time. *just outta being the way we are* and our way of getting to know each other. http://www.aota.net/ubb/smile.gif

I do have a question, if you are considering becoming a FQ client, what was so secretive about that? So many come here, and say, that they are considering these services and are very blunt in their questions.

This is a very close community.. and it is ashame that someone would want to try and cause anykind of tensions. By reading this last post from you, it is almost like you wanted to stir up something.

Last night, I could have emailed you.. but I chose the fun route. I sent you one of my new greetings with a note saying welcome to FQ and Heartistic Wishes, and if you had any questions you could email me.

I understand our host's concerns when someone is reluctant to answer a simple question. Running a server involves so much work, not to just make sure everything is working, pacify us when there are down times, keeping us contstantly informed, finding ways to be innovative, but there are also security risks. Anyone knows that there is an element of risk and I feel DEB was being protective. That is her obligation to us here at FQ.

I think our community is special and thriving. TO date, these forums have assisted and encouraged many. ASK around.. maybe I will open a thread when i am through here, and ask them, how many of you have been encouraged, gained knowledge, and became more independent.

Future Quest's foundation is built from their heart, based on dreams. Future Quest represents different things to each of us. Future Quest, has an element that NOT one other company can duplicate. And that is sincerity.. how many companies really reach out to their clients and encourage us to reach our goals?

I know many people can come forward and say that Deb and Andrew have been assisting them in ways that are not a requirement. All they are obligated to do is provide the service they advertise.

Future Quest could be spending more time on how to create ways to generate more money from us, instead, they are always seeking what more is it that they can offer us!

I do NOT believe in my heart that there is another hosting company that can top Future Quest.

We are all different people at different levels of achievement.. but , we are all wanting the same basic things.

Our community is open to anyone that wants to drop in. I was NOT a member for the first month I was posting here. And I can say, I was treated very well. I also let them know, I was considering to be a client, I was careful when making my choice to come here. I got the same treatment as I do now, before becoming a FQ client.

You are still a man of mystery. http://www.aota.net/ubb/wink.gif

Have a great weekend!

-------

I apologize in advance for saying anything I shouldn't have. FQ is not responsible for anything I say.. and neither am I.. *giggle*
