I am in the process of converting my site to use mostly shtml pages, to incorporate ssi's for my nav bar and footer, which is common to most pages.

I know that the index.shtml page will automatically "read" on the main directory - having inadvertently loaded it thusly once, hehehe! Is this true for my subdirectories as well? I am concerned about people finding pages they've bookmarked as *.html. Of course, my nav bar will reflect the changes - I just worry about folks getting lost . . .

Put this in index.html:

<meta http-equiv="refresh" content="0; URL=index.shtml">

Then, if someone accesses the index.html it will redirect to index.shtml instead. You can, of course, do the same to other html/shtml pages.

What? I'm sorry - I was busy drinkin' beer and flirtin' with the girls here in the back row.

What is the difference between HTML and SHMTL?

hey Tom.. well .. since you are busy flirtin' with the gal's and drinkin' beer.. what's to say you are gonna pay attention to this post.. *EG*

well.. on future quest, it all depends on what ya do with an html file.

If ya wanna show the date or something like that.. you put this code on your site: (this is SSI.)

<!--#echo var="DATE_LOCAL"-->

it will display something like this:

The Local Time is Tuesday, 23-Feb-1999 15:53:30 EST

There is further info at AOTA about SSI (server side includes)

to make this file work on FQ.. you must call your html file.. .shtml

and html files.. are whatever you make them http://www.aota.net/ubb/wink.gif
