.htaccess/.htpasswd requiring 2 log-ins?

I've got a situation where I have a directory protected with .htaccess and .htpasswd.

Entering the directory is fine with a userid and password, but as soon as I try to do something else, it requires the userid and password again. After that, it seems to "remember" the information.

Is this normal? At first, I thought I had a directory AND a subdirectory with different htaccess/htpassword files, but that doesn't seem to be the case.

Uh... never mind, it doesn't seem to be happening anymore. Maybe I DID have a directory and subdirectory with duplicate htaccess/htpassword files, and I deleted the offending files.
