Hi,

I just created a web page and also ordered FutureQuest hosting for a client.

And here's the scenario. I'm going to be doing the transfer of the files to the FutureQuest server.

In the meantime, my client is going to be using the the site's domain e-mail address.

And since this is a first (i.e. creating a website for someone else other than myself and also for the site to also to be hosted on FutureQuest), I'm not sure what are the steps to be taken in setting up all this as described above?

Please advise. I'd appreciate it. Thanks in advance!

You don't indicate if the client is planning on using the domain email address from a current provider or if you want to get that setup here at FutureQuest so I am not sure what the specific question is?

The below Knowledgebase Article link discusses basics in moving a site.

Ok, my client is going to be using his domain email address using Microsoft Office Outlook.

Then in that case what? What information should I give him? I know how to set it up for myself (i.e. dansbanners' e-mail address). But what about my client?

I'd appreciate it. Thanks in advance!

For instance,

In my Microsoft Office Outlook's Internet E-mail Setting, it contains the following info:

User Information

Your Name: my name
E-mail Address: my e-mail address

Server Information

Account Type: POP3
Incoming mail server: my domain.com
Outgoing mail server(SMTP): my domain.com

Logon Information

Username: my account's username
Password: my account's password

Now, what information should I send to my client in order for him to use his domain e-mail address?

I'm also wondering about the username and password? Shall we create two separate usernames? One for my client to have his domain e-mail access? And one for me to be able to transfer web files to the FutureQuest server? How does that work?

Thanks!

Hi,

You'll set up email accounts in the CNC (look for the "Email Manager" link after you've logged in to the CNC). Once you've finished creating an email account there, it will give you the information you need to use to access the email account. Here are a couple of links that should help as well:
What information do I need to configure my email program? (http://service.FutureQuest.net/kb93)
Quick Guide for Setting up SMTP-Auth (http://service.FutureQuest.net/kb88)

With regard to "transferring" the files, you'll likely do that using FTP:
http://service.FutureQuest.net/subcat76

Note: The Activation Letter contains the access information to use for FTP (and other access). You can also set up a separate FTP account for your access (again, in the CNC, look under "FTP Manager"):

Post edited. Answered my own questions.

P.S. Can one delete one's own post?

You would enter the domain name in http://www.futurequest.net/GoToCNC/ make sure you leave it set for Secure (HTTPS)

Then when you press Go To CNC you will see an Authorization box that will require the username and password that was contained in your Activation letter for this domain, it is located in three sections of the activation Letter:

Section 3) Temporary Account Access
Section 5) Command N' Control
Section 7) FTP Accounts

Can one delete one's own post?

No, deleting a post is not permitted, primarily because doing so can create discontinuity in the history/archive of the forums. If you would find the answer to your question before someone responds to you, it is generally recommended to edit your post (or make a new post), leaving the original question and posting the solution you found. That way your post can serve to help others that may have the same question in the future. :)

Ok, I did not think of that. I'll keep that in mind if it were to occur again in the future. Thanks!

Getting back to the E-mail management, what information should I give to my client? Other than the following?:

POP3 server
SMTP server
Login/UserName
Password

What about Server Port Numbers? Should they be the same as the ones used for my site (i.e. dansbanners.com)?

Thanks!

What about Server Port Numbers? Should they be the same as the ones used for my site (i.e. dansbanners.com)?Thanks

Traditional email services are available on the following ports:
standard POP3: port 110
standard SMTP: port 25 (with alternative ports of 1025 and 587)
standard IMAP: port 143

(Some ISPs block access to the default port 25. If your client has trouble sending email when using port 25, have them try port 1025 or port 587 which are set up as alternative SMTP ports at FutureQuest for the above reason.)

FutureQuest also offers secure email access (POP3S, SMTPS, IMAPS). For details including port numbers to use, see:
http://www.aota.net/forums/showthread.php?t=20079

You'll also want to make sure they have SMTP Auth set up in their email software if it supports it:
http://service.FutureQuest.net/kb88
http://service.FutureQuest.net/kb162

Ok, what login / username and password should I give to my client for e-mail access?

I guess the login / username should be the same as the account's login (i.e. used to enter the CNC)?

And that the password should be the one that was created in the CNC for this particular e-mail address (i.e. my clients')?

Right?

Thanks!

If you created a POP email account in the CNC, then you would give them the username (and password) you set for that particular email account. When you're creating the POP email account, the last screen will give you the details to use for the username ("Login Name"), POP server, and SMTP server.

You can also get this information anytime by clicking on the email account name from the main CNC Email Manager screen.
