When I enter
'/big/dom/xguitartricks/cgi-bin/adsys/ssirand.cgi musicgp'
on the command line, I get the response I am
looking for.
But, when I make it an SSI
<!--#exec cmd="/big/dom/xguitartricks/cgi-bin/adsys/ssirand.cgi defaultgp"-->
It doesn't do anything.
There must be a trick to it that I don't understand?
Thanks,
Jon

it is too late for me to be guessing.. but will ask this anyways.. does your html file end in .shtml?
Jon,
Well, SSI's are a fun thing, especially when it comes to passing arguments to them (which is what I assume you need, judging by the '<space> defaultgp' you've got). Try changing it to
<--#include virtual="/path/ssirand.cgi args"-->
and see if that helps at all. If that doesn't work, let me know and I'll see what else I can come up with http://www.aota.net/ubb/smile.gif

oh. I didn't know that.
Now the view source doesn't show the command (good news, I think) and the command works
when I enter it on the command line (spits out the html I had hoped for). But, it still doesn't spit it out when called from the file
doc.shtml..
So is there something else I need to change?
File permissions are the standard
-rw-rw-r--
And www directory is
drwxrwxr-x
Thanks!

I am beating myself up trying to help ya.. it is so hard to help without knowing the code.. i seem to be able to understand better what I can read.
when all else fails.. this is what I do.
if you got a readme file with all that.. PRINT THAT MOTHER.. giggle. When i did my first few scripts.. i followed that thing like a checklist. SO maybe.. if you open it up..and trace your steps ... cuss a little.. *cuz my best work is done saying some major cussing.. hehehe .. you will be albe to see what you are overlooking.
I am sooooo sorry that I couldn't be of better help to ya.. as I am sure that guessing is only confusing you more. http://www.aota.net/ubb/frown.gif
I really did try.

Thanks for the help.
'include virtual='
didn't help, unfortunately.
I am not using shtml.
Should the SSI command appear in a 'view source?' Or should the code returned appear?
Any other suggestions? I am new at this stuff
and could have made some newbie error.

i believe.. if I learned anything .. giggle.. that you need to use the .shtml extention
(naming your html file whatever.shtml rather than whatever.html)
try it http://www.aota.net/ubb/wink.gif
