View Full Version : Announcement list with secret address?

I'm trying to find a way to set up a reasonably secure announcement list using ezmlm that doesn't require messages to be moderated, or the list address to be changed.
One way would be to have a secret posting address that wasn't shown in the list emails. It's not a new idea - it looks like it was possible using ListSTAR (http://www.liststar.com/support/templates/announce-template.html) years ago - but can anyone suggest how to do it using ezmlm?
Thanks!

Announcement lists are required to be moderated. There is no way around that feature (or there shouldn't be). This is to prevent spam complaints. While it is a minor inconvenience to have to approve all messages sent to the list, the benefit of preventing the many complaints that result when an improper/spam message gets through to the list is (from our point of view) worth the trade-off.

It really isn't possible to have a secret posting address with ezmlm, either. Since you want the other addresses to work for the list, such as the subscribe address and the unsubscribe address and so on, then it is always possible from that information (included in the email header) to figure out what the list posting address is.

Sorry, should have said that this isn't on an FQ server. Just asking here because I know that there's a wealth of knowledge here :)
I don't need automatic subscribe and unsubscribe for this application - they can be handled manually. The list is for a relatively small, closed group. Messages will often be posted from very flakey internet connections, hence the need to make it as simple as humanly possible.
I've actually found some instructions for how to do this in ezmlm (http://binarios.com/lnb/ezmlm.html). All I need to do now is understand them . . .

Hmm. Failing dismally so far.
That ListSTAR (http://www.liststar.com/support/templates/announce-template.html) configuration was pretty slick actually. It keeps everything intact, but requires a secret bcc address for anything posted to the list. That would be perfect . . .

Just in case anyone's following this, I gave up and went for a moderated list in the end . . .
