Hi,

What happened to the Paint Shop Pro tool ? I used to use that tool but am not sure if it still exists ?

I understand it has something to do with it now belonging to a company called Corel. But it's after that I'm not sure what has developed ?

Do they even have a more up to date version of the older Paint Shop Pro versions that used to exist ? :hrmm:

Thanks !

I haven't used Paint Shop Pro since last century but this appears to be the current incarnation: http://www.corel.com/servlet/Satellite/us/en/Product/1184951547051

Perhaps GIMP (http://www.gimp.org/) will serve your purposes? I know GIMP isn't as good as Photoshop but then neither was Paint Shop Pro.

Another free replacement for Paint Shop Pro (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Corel_Paint_Shop_Pro) is Paint.NET (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paint.NET). However, GIMP (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GIMP) is better-known (http://google.com/trends?q=GIMP%2C+Paint+Shop+Pro%2C+Paint.NET).

I own PSP 7 which was released by Jasc. I purchased the Corel PSP X a few years ago because it had added batch processing.

Unless I need a batch process I still use version 7 because I find it easier to use. I think version 8 (http://www.amazon.com/Jasc-Paint-Shop-Pro-VERSION/dp/B00008ZGOE) was the last one released by Jasc before they sold out.

There may be some available on eBay (http://shop.ebay.com/?_from=R40&_trksid=m38.l1311&_nkw=jasc&_sacat=See-All-Categories) or elsewhere.

I still run my old Paint Shop Pro 7 - you can get older copies on Ebay, if you really like PSP. The present incarnation does not seem like a tool that will let you create graphics from scratch - just edit photos? That wouldn't work for me :blah:.

Anyone here use Xara?

I'm a big fan of Corel (have been using CorelDraw and CorelPhotopaint since 1992 with versions 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 10, 11, 12, x3, and x4!) and have been waiting to see if features from paintshoppro would be integrated into photopaint (didn't see this with x4, but maybe with the next x5 release.)

Corel is an fascinating company -- I've found their core CorelDraw to be an extremely capable suite for the $ vs. the adobe creative suite (they've lagged a bit in recent years as adobe has taken off with InDesign, but for many years I found CorelDraw to be extremely capable vs. doing something between pagemaker and photoshop); I don't see them overtaking Adobe any time soon though as they have such dominance in the industry. Likewise, Corel has a long track record of buying the #2 or #3 software in the market, a lot of good software, but then it seems to slip through the cracks a lot of times too and maybe they bite off more than they can chew as we then see a lot of these programs splitting off again. A good example was Bryce - way ahead of its time. Another was Kais Power Tools. And going way back Ray Dream Designer. And Word Perfect and Quatro Pro. And Xara and Paint Shop Pro. And Ventura which has always been unclear as to the development. Maybe it's to get the neat features into the core suite, or maybe it's just darn hard to make progress being #2 or #3 in this market competing against Adobe and Microsoft who hold such dominance in the #1 slot.

The present incarnation [X2] does not seem like a tool that will let you create graphics from scratch - just edit photos?

PSP X has all the capabilities of PSP 7 and then some and X2 seems to be X with added features. But the X interface has a number of "improvements" which may in fact be improvements but I use 7 because I use it for work and know the old moves cold... If I had time to play with it I might use X, it does have the batch function which I do use from time to time.

Ray Dream Designer...Wow, that's a blast from the past, I used to have Ray Dream Studio.
