Hello,

Does anybody up there knows of a good web directory, similar to the PHP Link Directory, but one that is highly stable, secured, and especially flexible to add new fields in the details pages?

I will appreciate any comments or suggestions.

Third vote. I've used phpLinkDirectory 3.x on a couple of sites now, but I still prefer Gossamer Threads Links in general due to it's nuts and bolts granular customization ability and staility over time (have been using it since 199x)

I also have an old version of Gosamer Links still running. I kind of stop maintaining the site because the subject is not very profitable. I also got in trouble with the server because every time I had to update the database, GL had to rebuild the whole directory, so I have to use the command line.

I'm sure GT has already resolved that problem, but the price is still very high compared to similar products (like six times more expensive than PhpLD!!!). It's not SEO friendly either. Each link has to go through a cgi-bin program, not a direct link. Cat's names can not be easily changed for SEO purposes (unless you use mods, which is not a good alternative if you are not a very technical person).

Last time I visited the GT website, its forum also seemed to be almost abandoned. Some would argue GT is not competent any more. I am not sure about it because I don't use it that much anymore.

I like PhpLD much more, to be honest, but FQ says that it has security problem. I've also heard that the program is not supported any more, but if you go to their site you'll see this was not a very accurate statement.

I hope that there will be another good alternative in the near future. There are many directory scripts up there, but most of them are not stable or you don't get good technical support. I hope that someday somebody can build something stable, supports it, and competitive in price....
