Starting a new thread with subj line that relates...
That's a pretty big hunk o change for me to be spending on a bloody message forum
Ain't that the truth! Some of us are are non-profit sites and don't have corporate pockets buying our stuff! It might be OK if the free version wasn't a neutered shadow of the $150 version.

bummer - well there's plenty of free msg boards out there- not like this but still prety good -
I operate a non-profit site plus my own person pages - so I gotta rely heavily on freebies http://www.aota.net/ubb/smile.gif havent put up any msg boards but have toyed with iut for like Rabbitrescue.org
but all the otehr scripts we run were freebies.

I agree that the purchase is WAY too much for most of us http://www.aota.net/ubb/frown.gif
What bothers me most is that after one year EVEN WITH A PURCHASE you do not get the upgrades for free or at a discounted price. To upgrade after one year means you have to purchase it at full price ALL OVER AGAIN! That is a problem... which is why we are only leasing the UBB. With a lease we get the upgrades for one year the same as with a purchase... the only diff between purchase and lease is $100 and the ability, on purchase, to run an outdated version forever:/
I do so much like the UBB... but also feel the pricing needs to be adjusted accordingly...

I run a non-profit site myself. I recently however did invest my own money in the UBB just because of the amazing features and the fact that my website guests love using the previous freebie messageboards so much. (Also helps when you get a nice xmas bonus to pay for it http://www.aota.net/ubb/smile.gif ) Just launched it today so am waiting to see the response and trying to convert my guests slowly.
I am only leasing since it makes much more sense as Deb pointed out. If it wasn't for her I might have mistakenly bought the UBB instead. Thanks Deb.

I've been playing with the free version of Discus and think it's pretty nice. http://www.aota.net/ubb/smile.gif Not as nice as UBB, but at least the Discus creators put most of the commercial features in the free version. When the time comes to decide which to purchase, I think I'll stick with Discus...
