I'm very fresh at this. I am using a mac and working iWeb. I have designed pages, but I'm not quite sure how the process works for uploading from iWeb. I know that I need to use an FTP program. I have seen that I have access to FTP in CNC, but I'm not sure how to make it all work. Any information you have on the subject would be great.

Thanks,

Csilk

I use a Mac, also. I like the FTP program Transmit (http://www.panic.com/transmit/). It's a good one, but it isn't free.

Some people use Fetch (http://fetchsoftworks.com/). I believe they have licensing terms for free use in certain circumstances (such as educational, etc...)

OK, I booted up iWeb to see if I could make some quick remarks on using it for uploading (which I've never done, but...).

It looks to me like if you use iWeb, you have an option to "publish to a folder" (under the File menu). If you choose this option, then you can use the FTP client of your choice to upload the files to your website.

Your web files go in the folder
/big/dom/xdomain/www

(where "xdomain" is replaced with the root part of your domain preceeded by an "x" ... see your Activation Letter for the full path)

Hmmm. I should say I have version 1.1.2 of iWeb, which is not the latest, so I may not have all of the features and options available to me.

But in the version I have, I don't see any option to publish straight from iWeb to your FutureQuest site.

The options I see under the File menu are:

Publish to .Mac
Publish All to .Mac
Publish to a Folder...

Since you are not trying to put your website on .Mac, you would want to choose the "publish to a Folder..." option.

Then after you save your web files in that folder, you would upload them to your FutureQuest web space.

You can get by with using the File Manager in your CNC instead of an FTP program, but it isn't as convenient, especially if you have many files or large files.

It's also possible to simply FTP from the Terminal at the command line, but that's an advanced topic and probably not a good idea for someone new to FTP (or someone not already familiar with and comfortable with the command line environment).

Thanks Sheila,

I actually got to that point. I downloaded Firezilla. It works fairly well. My new problem is that I downloaded it to that folder as a zip file and it says it is too large to do anything with... any ideas?

I am not sure I follow completely.

What did you download as a .zip file?
Where exactly was it downloaded to?
