View Full Version : How do I ?????

How do I make my radio buttons turn off? Like if you click one, and then change your mind, you should be able to click it again and turn it off. But it doesn't work!
And how do I make it so that they can only pick one radio button of several options?
Help!
Shaytar (who thought their survey was working very well, actually!)
Well there's the question of a lifetime hehe... I WISH you could... but you can not http://www.aota.net/ubb//frown.gif
Only check boxes will allow you to do that.
It's a matter of weighing the odds in deciding which one is best to use for different things...
With check boxes you can make multiple seclections and turn them on/off
With radio buttons you can only choose ONE item from the list but once you have selected something the only way to 'change your mind' is to select something else in the list... you never bring it back to no selection without reloading the page...
Hope this helps

Right. We figured it out actually. The problem was that you could check ALL of the radio buttons, when you only should have been able to click one, like you said.
So we looked at another survey's coding and figured out that the problem was that the names were all different for the same question. The names need to be the same and the values different.
Learn something new every day!
Thanks for responding Deb.

Hey Lea
Yeah, we considered that too, and decided to remove the </INPUT>s.
They were in there cuz Note Tab will auto generate coding for you, but it does it with the </INPUT> tags.
*shrug*
But just taking them out didn't work, we had to rename them, like I said in our last post.
Everything's working the way it should now, though.

yuppes i was just noticing you were missing the Value=
part on your radio tags http://www.aota.net/ubb//smile.gif
with multiple choice or even yes nos doesnt givng them all differnt names within one qusstion liek make coding and reading the log kinda tough?
like one questions for us has one name - x number of values whater we use checkboxes or radio buttons. so when we code the log template it just looks like this
1. [ie10]
if ya named all the questions one things diferent names wouldnt yuo have to throw in all that extra coding?
what goes inthat space is the "VALUE=" - so no need to create lots of differnt "NAME=" for one question.
Lea
(I know, I'm answering way late)
The only way to reset a radio button to empty is by using the [reset] button (<input type=reset value=blah> http://www.aota.net/ubb//wink.gif Other than that, the only other way is with JavaScript, and I'm not totally sure of that...
Del
That's ok Del, we'll just deduct it from your pay http://www.aota.net/ubb//biggrin.gif
Note: hitting reset button if you use it of course resets the entire form also...
Deb
LOL
I promise, I'll be on more when we get another phone line here. Dad gets real grumpy when we use his only phone too much...

Hey Lea . . . to answer your question about the logs . . .
From watching over Shaytar's shoulder, we think she put the different names in like "2yes" or "2no" so the question number and the answer came back together. I think. Ow, headache. I'll stop thinking now.

what form script you using and how does it work? just curious - cuz ours polugs in the values part of the radio and check boxes and the name part is the indication you stick in the log tmeplate to tell it to write the answer there.
Hows the data collection com, ming btw? How much longer yoi gonna have it up there?
I gota take that thing down mon mron man - so we can just focus on coding and data entry and get it all done and runs the stats and write thwe report and develop a prensentation in a scant 4 weeks! ACK! hehe but you probably dont have near as much work since it's not like a formal research project (or is it - you gota run all them stats and crud on that survey man liek the thiongs I dont have no clue about hahaha and if so how you gonna code them open ended questions?)
like oh man did we tell ya the presentation for this class is open to the public eeewww!
PUKE!

That's gross, Lea. Ugh.. public types
well, ours is not strictly formal, it was our own idea to do it, not a requirement of the essay
as for stats and stuff.. /me has no clue
guess we should figure out some "methodology" before we write the paper
we've got 14 responses so far, and only three of them chose to be anonymous
/me finds this interesting
our paper isn't due until Dec.18th, so we can leave the survey up as long as we want to, as long as we give ourselves time to compile the data
we're using Note Tab Light/Standard, which has a menu bar where you can choose the html you want, and it generates it for you - fonts, colors, forms, links, whatever
get this though, our TA visited "the site where the survey is but couldn't tell what it was" (direct quote from her email!)
well duh!
she thought we'd just found the survey online somewhere, and we're somehow collecting the data
she has no clue! and she's a ta for this "sociology of information and communication technology" course!
WE could do a better job!!!

DUH on that TA man ahahahahah geesh!@ liek get a clue LOL
man I think our paper is due Dec 7 th ack! thats the last week of classes - wee spent all evenring and tongiht scoring and coding yeeeeech. so all I'll have left to deal with is sat and sun - and it's slowing up so they wont be nearly so bad thankfully.
Oh someone sent me this kewl survey in email - I'll try to remeber to send ya the url.
I think you'd be interested.
as far as methodology goes I mean you can get away with proabbly just reporting what percentage of people said what - kinda like a poll dont need nothing fancy, when your writing ti up like discuss the common themes that came up on the open ended questions - I dunno I aint no good at that sort of thing. throw in some quotes that are relevant to the aspect of whatnot you are discussing Maybe make some nice tables to highlight the results well man gotta go to bed - good luck!
