My current password program is outdated and the developer has not bothered to maintain the program with modern features.
Does you use a really good program that you enjoy using? Why do you like it and why do you recommend it?
I am using Vista.

I started using SplashID (http://www.splashdata.com/splashid/desktop/index.htm) because it can sync with a Palm PDA and runs on both OS X and Windows. (My Palm has since been supplanted by the iPod Touch, which isn't supported by SplashID, and the Mac version is now seriously lagging behind the Windows version, so I may be using it mostly out of habit now.)
I like that it's more flexible than some password apps -- it's not just limited to web site logins. It comes with categories for credit cards, software registration codes, etc. And you can create your own custom templates; I have one devoted to FutureQuest logins.
It's pretty inexpensive too, especially if you don't need any of the handheld support.
The latest Windows version is supposed to provide auto-fill for web site forms, if that matters to you.
I may end up migrating to 1password (http://1passwd.com) (Mac only) because it has that web auto-fill feature, and it integrates with the OS X password manager. And it supports the iPhone/iPod Touch. :yeah:
It's doesn't have the full flexibility of SplashID -- it's mostly web-site oriented, so everything else gets lumped into Secure Notes. But I might be able to live with that.

Have used Turbo Passwords (http://www.chapura.com/passwordmanager.php) for many years. Originally because it syncs with palm (like Randall) but mine has not been replaced by an iPhone. It also has a Windows component and has had auto-fill for a while. It definitely has major flexibility since each field on each entry can be renamed if necessary as well as supporting templates. If you don't need to sync then you may find something better out there. If you do need to sync I would recommend this application.

I just use Firefox's built in auto-filling capabilities when I am at my desk. When I am not at my desk I use http://www.standalone.com/palmos/password_store/ on my Clie. Unfortunately I have no syncing between them.

I highly recommend Iliumsoft's E-wallet. With version 6, Flexwallet by webis is integrated so now both companies carry the same product. It is touted as a windows mobile application with a desktop companion, but I feel the desktop software is as strong as any standalone password manager/digital wallet.
E-Wallet supports Windows, Windows Mobile, Palm, U3 smart drives and they are beta testing a web based app for OSX and iPhone support (plus a load of other platforms.)
It has the basics that most have - 256 bit AES encryption, auto web fill, template support, but my favorite is automatic FTP sync (at the individual record level, which is a big plus.) So, my E-wallet client at work, home and notebook all stay in sync via FTP.
I have been using this for years and it's never failed me.

Again, Iliumsoft is Windows Mobile focused, but don't let the fact that it's called a "Desktop Companion" fool you into thinking it's not powerful by itself. It can be purchased without the mobile software, but you need to find the link for "Single Copy Options." Of course there is a free trial, too.

I can highly recommend this one:
http://keepass.info/
I started using it a few months ago, and haven't looked back as I wanted a secure solution from both my desktop and my cell phone... Mine is locked with both a strong password and a USB key (with that key password protected as well)...
It is also open source, so customization is easily within reach... :)
keepass looks really interesting.
I've been using PINS (http://www.mirekw.com/winfreeware/pins.html) for years now

Thank you everyone for responding. There are lots of good alternatives to choose from.
I am going to try Terra's suggestion. It seems rich with features.
It's amazing how many passwords we accumulate over the years. So I definitely need a better program.
Thank you again!
I am going to try Terra's suggestion.
Over the years, I've found that to be a wise thing to do :)

Terra's does look interesting (Mac and Linux versions here (http://www.keepassx.org)). Big question is how much work it'll be to get my passwords out of SplashID and into KeePass. I think 1password can import directly from SplashID.

The only real importing problem I had when I went from PasswordPro to KeePass was dealing with multi-line comments (PasswordPro's fault)... It took me about 10 minutes to whip up something in Perl to fix the exported text file...
I've been using it a couple months now, and simply can't see how I survived with PasswordPro for as long as I did... KeePass just makes everything so much easier, along with the type of flexible searching and categorizing that I like... It will also bypass any clipboard utilities (like ClipMate) and the password is held in temporary memory for 60 seconds and then erased... Prior to that, I would have to go into ClipMate and manually purge the copied password...

Terra, this is a slick program. It is much, much better than my current solution, which doesn't allow for exporting of data. That's okay though. I will slowly migrate over. Thank you again for the recommendation. :yeah:
