yes, Eastern time corrected for daylight savings times...

That time shown is exactly: 11:00:26 pm EDT

Aggreed this is a pain.

Does anyone know of a way to control the timezone used when FTPing and telnet-ing?

Or perhapes the whole world could agree to use GMT? :-)

At least some, probably most or all, FTP programs provide an option for entering a time zone adjustment.[nbsp][nbsp]I wouldn't be suprised if more advanced telnet clients do the same, but I haven't seen it.
