i guess it is about time i confess my ignorance or frustration.
I called this toll free number to Network Solutions and they say INTERNIC NO LONGER EXISTS. THAT DOMAINS COST $119... cuz it is processed quicker.
I told him his price/site was bogus, and he went on to explain that we can no longer sign ourselves up for our own domains for the $70 fee but our servers could.
I read the article.. just this whole issue ain't making sense to me anymore.
So, is this legit? They can remove.. did remove, and ain't putting internic back?
i am sooooooooooooooooo confused.
If Network Solutions told you that .... SIGH!
I would hope you could find the time to send a formal complaint.
Domain Names are $70! And ANYONE can order a domain name for that price! Network solutions is not the controlling factor of their cost at this point. When you begin to place your order you will be givin two options... 1. Reserve and 2. Register. The option you are looking for is to Register the domain name. Reserve is if you want network solutions to park it for you on their servers....
What they have told you is incorrect.

the guy i spoke with is Ralph, he doesn't know my name, but he will remember my attitude! *evil grin*
I asked him why should i order it from them when you guys wouldn't charge me that. Either way, he informed me, if I wanted to order a domain to have here at my server, the cost was $119. *for reasons i stated above*
He said I could deal with internic directly.. *if* I called them directly.. but he clearly stated their site no longer exists. it is now network solutions.

I've been trying to switch a site over to FQ for a couple of weeks. I finally got the e-mail where it asks you to type YES if you agree. I sent that back 4 days ago, and then again yesterday - still no change.
Do they actually DO anything if you call or fax them with the tracking number?

i have been working on updating my records, and at first i was very impressed, i got a response within 24 hours. *a miracle?*
So far, i have confirmed twice, gotten several confirmations from them, each one saying that my records will be updated within a day. *a short lived miracle*
anyways, the old info is still there. Are we misled by automated emails? *prob so*
Trying to figure this out, if the internic site no longer exists, why am i getting emails from them? Even the template I used was from internic.
Network solutions? *my opinion* NET WORK POLUTIONS!

YES!!! My ship has come in... my SPRING BREAK IS FINALLY HERE!
I am gearing myself up for a week of daily visits to the beach, tons of website developement, and torturing the people over at "Net Work Pollutions" by calling everyday, for the next 5 days.
You guys should join me too, it would probably fun... http://www.aota.net/ubb/smile.gif
(next part is actually a joke) Maybe we could do a threeway call and take turns making the phone reps quiver with fear? http://www.aota.net/ubb/biggrin.gif
Hmmmm... *ghoulish grin of death*

Just a few weeks ago, I moved a domain over to a new server and when it was all runing, I felt that it was time to get my other sites moved over. So, I went to Internic's site (after network solutions autofowarded the site) and filled out the forms as need be. One of the domains got an error instanlt because the host email address was wrong, so I fixed that. It's been 10 days, 4 forms per domain and not one domain has been moved over.
Luckily, they are sending the prebilling noticication that lets you modify your information before billing for all my domains today and tommorow. I'm hoping that form will do the trick but if not I'm going to be writing a few friend's in Washington. Hell, if people got to testify about the horrible dealings of MicroSoft, Airlines, ect.... why can't we go against internic?
Ted
Just to add to the findings...
I recently needed to register a domain for my own personal use and decided to go for the complete set, .net, .com, and .org.
I did this by going ahead and clicking the extra two options when I registered. The .com and .net went through ok but the .org became lost in pergatory:/ I had to go back and re-register that one to get it through. I would have been IRATE had the name been taken by someone else while I was waiting to find out that my intial application never made it.
This may have been a fluke thing, or it may have been a problem with their setup as far as ordering the extra domains go. All I do know is that, until I'm positive what it is, I will not be using the 'three in one' application again, I will instead register each individually.
<Terra>
I will add a bit more to this... Deb had registered the new domain name using the additional checkboxes for selecting .com .net or .org... As stated, the .com and .net was registered but .org was lost... She was using her personal information for the registrations... When I didn't see the .org go through, I then went in and used FutureQuest's contact info to register the .org... This is very scary, because while Deb thought she had all three, I could have been joe schmoe that just happened to want the .org domain and would have gotten it... Where did that leave Deb, holding .com and .net without the .org... http://www.aota.net/ubb/frown.gif Do you thing the mighty Internic would have lifted a finger to give her the .org domain due to their mistake? I seriously doubt it... All I can say is be careful and double-check everything they do! You might be surprised to find out otherwise...

Well I'm going to add on a little more..... I have a lot of ties to big radio station in the SF/Bay Area. Basically, after waiting 14 months for a website (which isn't all that good), they are finnally up and ready to run.... or so they thought.
Some guy had bought their domain and when they bought it back, internic had it's move. To say the least, they've been making phone calls for 3 weeks, sending forms in every 3 hours and the domain has yet to change anything but one contact. Now if you ask me, every domain should be processed equally... but, if a company is going to be rather SLOW, you'd theink they would help the customers with the big budgest out a little more....

bump: edited Deb's post above
I did receive an email in reference to my post noting that another person followed the same steps that I had and did so with success.
I think the bottom line is that it is up to the one making the changes and/or adding domains to be aware of the proceedures, and as terra noted, watch carefully to assure they are happening.
It's not right nor fair... but seems to be the way it is until some further improvements are made.
As far as things like Infinity has brought up... these are long term problems that have never seemed to go away... it is pathetic http://www.aota.net/ubb/frown.gif

See what I mean? I seriously think we should start an anti Internic web site ironically using a .com TLD http://www.aota.net/ubb/biggrin.gif
Infinity: I agree with you, we should have some sort of anti-Network solutions Million Web Surfer March to Washington and get those bums out of their seat of web tyrany http://www.aota.net/ubb/biggrin.gif
heh They already have millions going into this ... it's called companies like register.com that are fighting to earn a spot in the 'drawing' to enable more then one company a shot at this monopoly.
Problem is it's a HIGH DOLLAR MONEY MAKING MACHINE -- many lawyers and lotsa paperwork http://www.aota.net/ubb/frown.gif

With Internic's established automated procedures (albeit not the speediest in the world) are we so sure that the solution to the Internic problem won't just create another problem...

FutureQuest
Hi, FQNewbie here...
Just thought I'd use this thread to ask the question that's on my mind ;-)
First of all, huge thanks to Deb & Andrew for expediting my internic server modification!
How's this:
Monday (1:48 AM) March 29,
- confirmed new FQ account request
1 hour later
- Account activated
- Received note re handling internic
- received form to give internic
4:45 that afternoon:
- sent form (had questions, so spoke to Andrew first)
6:39 that evening:
- received request for acceptance from internic
9:50 next am (tues)
- returned it to internic as "yes",
*12:38 am Internic notified me that the switch had taken place - give 24 hours for databases to reflect...
(*prior to my accepting! Did my old server reply first?)
Now my ?
The sequence at the end confused me. I have been checking internic/NS & it still names my old server. BUT, few hours ago (after the field trip <g> ), I tried my donaim name - and it is reflecting my FQ account!
So, are their posted records not up to date?
The only sad news for me is, had I known it would happen this fast, I would have waited a few hours to install discus http://www.aota.net/ubb/frown.gif. As it stands, I guess I need to modify the urls already. Or uninstall...back to the books I guess <g>
