View Full Version : Cookies in Netscape
Does anyone know how to delete cookies in Netscape (any version in the 4 series)? It's pretty easy for Explorer but doesn't seem so easy for Netscape. Any help would be much appreciated.
Joe.
P.S. I've done a search on these forums and couldn't find anything obviously related.[nbsp]

You can do a search for cookies.txt on your harddrive, it should be located somewhere in "Program Files\Netscape\users" I think. Before you edit the file, be sure to close Netscape.

Thanks Arthur. I'll check that out.
Arthur,
Any idea what would happen if I just deleted the file? I know I'd lose all my cookies, but would it regenerate?
Joe.

I think so, but why don't you just move it to another location first and see if it's regenerated when you start Netscape.

I haven't checked lately, but it used to be that if you turned cookies off in Netscape, the contents were deleted.[nbsp][nbsp]Turn them back on and you have a clean start.

As I can't stand losing my helpful cookies, I edit my cookies.txt file by hand - usually when I do other "housekeeping" chores like flushing cache, cleaning out Windows\Temp\, deleting all those ws_ftp.log files that fill up directories everywhere, etc. etc.
Just open in any text editor, edit, and save.[nbsp][nbsp]Ignore the warning not to do this.
I'd forgotten I'd started this thread. I did what Arthur suggested and moved the file. It did indeed regenerate. Mandi what you do is what I did first before starting this thread, but my text editor must have screwed something up. John, where can I turn cookies off in Netscape?
Anyway, everything seems to be fine for now. Thanks for all your help.
Joe.
