Hi,

I'm kind of wondering why my current Forum Notability is the following ?:

Forum Notability:
-53 pts: Recommend Ignoring

I could see having a zero rating with this being a new screename and all that. But why the minus rating and the "Recommend Ignoring" ?

To put it in perspective that I'm making somewhat of a contribution to the forum, I've started several threads in the General Computing section recently and it has led to many posts or discussions afterwards.

Fortunately, since there've been replies to my posts, the "Recommend Ignoring" doesn't seem to be much of a factor, that is to my knowledge. However, it's in the back of my mind that there could always be some forum members out there that would come across it and then decide not to reply to my posts cause of it.

And lastly, the other day I wanted to Post a Feedback to thank a member for being helpful but couldn't. I think it was cause of the minus rating. :hrmm:

Click "Options" in the forum menu (between "Posts In" and "Calendar") to see the comments that were left when people down-voted you. When I saw your rating a week or two ago, I came close to complaining on your behalf because I didn't remember anything you posted that deserved that rating. Then I read all of the past messages that you posted under your current name and I didn't have a strong enough opinion to complain. I think there was one thread when someone gave you a solution to your problem and you didn't respond. Other posts seemed unimportant or like something you could look up so maybe someone thought you were just trying to get a high post count.

And you have an ad for yourself in your name. Maybe that contributed to someone downvoting you.

Dan,

In reviewing this situation, and after once again reviewing the Original Intent of Forums Notability, a -53 would appear to be out of line with the intent and your notability rating has been reset to 0.

I would like to take this opportunity to remind everyone of the Original Announcement and the Positive intent of notability...

I'm sorry, I'm not sure what you mean by that ? :hrmm:

Dansbanners sounds like a plug for the website dansbanners.com. I can't think of anyone else who uses a name that sounds like a company. Some people might think that if your posts aren't sufficiently important, you're just trying to advertise your website.

Yeah, there's you. I knew there must be others. I can't think of anyone else though. His name is fine, but it's an ad. If there's any question about whether he really needs to post what he's posting, some people would hold his name against him.

Oh Barry, go bake a blueberry pie in your new oven, laugh a bit and don't be so cranky.

He was "kind of wondering" then he said "I'm not sure what you mean by that." I can't say something good about him if I'm trying to explain why someone downvoted him.

Blueberries are way too expensive off season.

Blueberries are way too expensive off season.Use canned pie filling or frozen blueberries. Blueberries have a higher antioxidant capacity than any other fruit or vegetable, cheap at twice the price.

That was not my intention. As a matter of fact, there may be some FutureQuest forum members out there that may not even be aware of my having a site with that name to begin with. Also, do not assume that all members would also make a connection with that old screename of mine and my current one. Apparently you did. And since you pointed it out, more would probably know now not that I care nor should it matter.

Ok, here's the whole picture. What made me get this new screename more so than anything else was for the sake of consistency. I use the screename dansbanners in many other internet forums. So, I figured I'd also use it in this one. It's kinda my internet nickname.

For instance, I may add a link to the forum or to the web hosting company in my site. And supposedly, I refer some new members to the web hosting company and also tell them about the forum. I rather tell them that "Yes, I'm dansbanners in there" as opposed to using a totally different screename that does not have any association with my internet hobbies, interests or business.

Getting back to posting feedback, I'm still unable to do so. What does my rating need to be in order to be able to post feedback in the forum ?

Thanks again !

Hi again,

From the link I posted earlier in this thread:

The ability to alter another member's Forum Notability is only available to Site Owners and Admins...

Other guidelines regarding points or rankings are also contained...

On the subject of forum notability, a few days ago I suddenly noticed: "116 pts: Helpful Contributor" under my avatar, where it had previously been zero forever. If someone has suddenly somehow benefited from the random babblings of my mind :ytold: I am humbly pleased and would like to thank the anonymous donor for this bestowment. I will strive to wear this badge with all the dignity and honor that it symbolizes. Oh and on the subject of blueberry pies, I would love one. mmmmm!

Mmmm, blueberry pie...

I've decided that my exercise program shall begin in earnest when the French Bakery opens downstairs.

Speaking of notability and blueberry pie, shouldn't FQ award a t-shirt or MQS when a forum member first crosses 1,000 points? ;)

That's a pretty good idea. I still have the FutureQuest mug I got a few years ago. It looks great and is a good marketing tool.
