I've been asked to work on a site and incorporate a simple (and robust, easy to install, configure and maintain) cart/billing system - credit cards, PayPal etc... recurring deductions, client database etc.
Preferably Perl/PHP and Linux/Unix.
Ideally FQ-approved.
Anyone any recommendations, please?
TIA!

Shopping Cart & Billing systems are typically two separate beasts. On the shopping cart side, you can search these forums for "cart" and you'll see what people have had success with. I have deployed both osCommerce and ZenCart successfully at FQ; although you may find a commercial product (e.g., X-Cart) more seamless. Can't comment on the billing system as we developed our own.
oscommerce and zencart are super-easy to install, but can take some time to configure and especially to customize with add-ons (and maintain if you've customized and need to re-customize each time an update is released, or else merge in all the changes.)

Thanks - that's helpful. Shall look into the recommendations you make :yeah:
osCommerce is not going to give you recurring billing. I don't recommend osCommerce installation for a non-developer (installation isn't the issue, it's configuration and tweaking). Zen Cart seems to be more focused on the average user, but I've been burned by major inconsistencies between releases and there seems to be a history of more serious security issues than with osCommerce (probably due to the more extensive code rewrites).
How many products/ services are you needing to feature and what payment gateway are you using?
