I'm looking for a dreamweaver gallery / slideshow extension that would allow me to generate some quick slideshows of say 12-60 images at a time, preferably with little fuss and with a little "style".

One option that I like the looks of is this:http://www.dwuser.com/flashslideshow/v3/index.php
(is this an adaptation of other code to a dreamweaver extension, or built from the ground up for dreamweaver? I've seen this effect on several websites now)

I've also seen a slideshow where the thumbnails were shown at the bottom and grew larger as you moused over them which was a great dynamic effect, but I can't find it anywhere now that I'm searching for it.

Any recommendations for easy to use and interesting slideshow extensions?

I've used a quick and dirty photoshop automate photo album many times by manually creating the template based on the dreamweaver template, but am looking for something "slicker" now. I've also used jalbum as a standalone, and picassa but ideally I'd love something that I could run directly in dreamweaver for a really quick 2-minute slideshow addition to a given page.

Although not dreamweaver, I have been happy with Airtight's Simpleviewer and Postcardviewer:

Thanks John.

The Airtight flash viewers are very very neat as standalone full screen viewers but I have some difficulty integrating them into a layout without making them feel squinched.

The only other thing that I have used lately, that is more layout oriented is Lightbox2:

http://www.huddletogether.com/projects/lightbox2/

It is a javascript action to add to images on the page to allow you to view a larger version of the image as an overlay. There is also a image set option.

That is about it for what I know and love.

Great minds must think alike!

I just discovered slimbox http://www.digitalia.be/software/slimbox myself a week or two ago which is almost identical to lightbox. I love how easy it is to integrate - my first use was to add it to a cgi classifieds site (http://www.sailboatlistings.com/view/7535) which took all of 5 minutes! I like the fact that a normal click launches slimbox but a middle click (or whatever you have assigned to open a link in a new tab) opens the image standalone in a new tab.

I haven't gone much beyond that though and I haven't figured out how to make a row of thumbnails within the slimbox/lightbox itself for navigation yet - I didn't think this was possible but maybe I need to look again at the full-weight ligthbox2.

I ended up purchasing the dwuser XML flash slideshow v3 (http://www.dwuser.com/flashslideshow/v3/index.php) and have found it quite flexible - it took some time for me to get the options I wanted through the component interface at first, but now I really like it. I think I'll have a lot of uses for this from small to large as it makes it much easier in dreamweaver than the way I did it previously using programs like swish. The only single drawback is that the swf visitors must load is 128 KB so it's a bit large for small uses, but good if it's the major component of the page.

I'm still looking for something a little different though too.
I found this - http://www.flashloaded.com/flashcomponents/photoflow/ - which is a neat effect - like mac's itunes etc. coverflow mouseover effect where you mouseover a thumbnail and it comes to the front and enlarges in a 3d space. Unfortunately it requires flash 8 and I'm only at vs. mx 2004 (verson 7) and don't have another reason to upgrade immediately so that one would cost me too much.

Anyone know of anything else visually similar to http://www.flashloaded.com/flashcomponents/photoflow/ ?

I don't specifically track all these things, but some options for different levels of setup/detail:

Menalto Gallery has a built in slideshow at the album level, so once you have it installed and configured you can create a simple slideshow.

http://www.saplings.us/gallery/v/anniversary/slideshow.html

The default Matrix theme is a bit feature poor, however the Greypup theme integrates lightbox and some nice extras.

Shalbum(I posted elsewhere in utilities a while back) is a shell script that will take a directory of images, thumbnail them, and create a basic javascript slideshow. Nothing fancy, but quick and easy.

If your using Joomla, RocketTheme's Replicant theme has a nifty little slideshow application. See the demo by going to http://demo.rockettheme.com/ and choosing "Replicant".

Lightbox, thickbox, slimbox, etc are all variations on the same theme with their own tweaks.
