I'm trying to export files to a new computer on the cheap. My old computer is a dog with fleas - has no CD burner, and won't run any online trials (I've tried them all - Nero, Roxio, Cheetah, you name it).
I've been somewhat successful copying the smaller (outlook) files into my www folder, but the larger ones won't squeeze through the door. They're mostly photos, max size 2 mb. (If I could get the music files in, that'd be great, but not crucial).
CNC tells me to use an FTP program, but that's Greek to me. Can someone please walk me through the process?
Thanks. The sooner I can put the old dog down, the better.

Hi dgehan,
There are many advantages to using a separate FTP program, but if you have Internet Explorer, you may be able to get by with this quick & easy solution.
Enter the following (using your actual domain name) in the address bar of the browser:ftp://ftp.YOURDOMAIN.COM
Enter your FTP username and password when prompted.
Click (or double-click) to get to the folder you want to put files into, then drag the files you want to upload onto IE and watch them go.
I tried this in Opera and it didn't work, but other browsers may be able to do it.

The way I understand this, you're backing your computer files up on your FQ account for download to your new PC. Is this correct? Provided the total file sizes don't exceed your account allotment, I suppose that's one way to do it.
I would recommend zipping all of the files you want migrated on your old computer. Then FTP this single file to your FQ account, download it to your new computer and unzip it. In uploading individual files, you run the risk of files getting modified (i.e. uploading a binary file in ASCII, or vice versa).

Hello,
In regards to FTP I would recommend reviewing the FTP Knowledgebase Articles specifically http://Service.FutureQuest.net/kb49 I personally recommend CoreFTP (last in the list) for a Free FTP program.
Another suggestion would be if your old machine has a USB port would be to get a USB Flash Drive (I recently got a 4 GB flash drive for about 30 dollars US) zip your files as was suggested, move them to the Flash Drive and then move them to the new machine.
I recently had to move my Mother In Laws files from an old machine that had no network card to a new machine and using the Flash drive made things very easy.
Also for the Firefox and Thunderbird users out there here is a utility, MozBackUp (http://mozbackup.jasnapaka.com/), that makes it easy to backup both applications and restore them on anther machine or on the same machine in the event of corruption...
