I am considering changing another site to futurequest. I need to know if I can get 3rd level domain (like ems-ce.futurequest.com) BEFORE I transfer my domain over.

This 3rd level domain is needed to test the site to make sure all the programs are up and running prior to switching.

Thanks

Hi Lee,

3rd level FutureQuest domains are not available.

However, we do allow up to 30 days of temporary access, via IP, to set your site up and test it out, prior to DNS changes being made.

Once your account is ordered and confirmed you receive an Activation Letter that allows for immediate access.

I hope this helps :)

Have a Good One,
Bob

Just wondering why only 30 days is allowed?[nbsp][nbsp]Say I wanted to have a development domain, but didn't want to have a domain name.[nbsp][nbsp]Why couldn't I just buy the account, and use the IP to access it?

Why couldn't I just buy the account, and use the IP to access it? 2 words: IP Justification

Our upstream makes frequent sweeps of our IP Block usage, and if they are not being used efficiently - then they will be taken from us...

IP addresses are *not* what they used to be, and increasing pressure from ARIN.net has placed very strict and harsh policies on those that are in our type of business...

Hi Lee :)

Here's a suggestion -

I recently set up an account for a client, specifying the domain required, and an IRO for another domain.

As the IRO domain was a new registration, I specified the FQ name servers when registering.

Thanks to the (in)efficiencies of Network Solutions, the main domain is still awaiting transfer (thank goodness it's still hosted elsewhere) :(

This is all by way of saying that the IRO domain is working fine, even though the main domain is not yet in the FQ DNS :)

Maybe this is a solution for you - purchase an account specifying the main domain you will eventually use, and order an IRO for a secondary domain which you can use for testing.

Terra, does this get round the IP problem?

Simon :)

Domain names are so cheap now, why not just register another one to use for testing/development?

joker.com are only charging around $11, and you might find one even cheaper!

Because an IP address just screams geek. :)
