I am having some difficulty with my website which I am editing with Kompozer.

borntowar.com/thumbnails/borntowar/html

The file has actually been erased from my computer. The file is there but it is empty. It is still intact on the server but I cannot get it back onto my computer to continue editing it.

I am wondering if it is too big or if I have too many files. This is my first website, obviously. Kompozer has been acting buggy for the last couple of days.

Could someone advise me how to retrieve a file from the server back to my computer? When I open Site Manager, and click on the file, I get the message that I have too many windows open, although this is the only window I have open. Also, I would like to know if what I am working on is too big for one page.

Thank you very much for your help.

Barbara Lea

P.S. It seems the Nvu forum is down.

Hi Barbara,

If you log in to your CNC, you should be able to download any files easily from there.

Just navigate to the thumbnails directory and find the borntowar.html file in the listing. Click the box in front of the filename and then click the Download Files button in the bottom menu.

Alternatively, you should be able to visit http://borntowar.com/thumbnails/borntowar.html and save the page (depending on the browser you're using, under File you should see something like Save Page).

Highly recommend having an FTP program like the excellent and free filezilla http://filezilla.sourceforge.net/ to move files back and forth between local computer and server as well.

My computer came loaded with Total Commander (some unregistered version that works indefinitely, you just have to keep clicking 1,2, or 3 to open, you can find it through Google as well).

It comes with FTP installed on the toolbar. Just set up new connect and afterwards just click to connection name and it connects directly. From day 1 I used this without problem to connect to FQ and manage the files on the server and on my computer.

I use it always as alternative to windows explorer because it standard opens two panels and you can tell it what to show in each panel. It makes it very easy to have two directories next to each other and compare them: hide same files, highlight newer files, etc. It can also copy or move one directory onto the next with option to overwrite only older files etc.
