View Full Version : Gmail getting aggressive on filtering?

I have noticed in the last two weeks, in my Gmail account, that mail that I have been receiving routinely for well over a year is all of a sudden being marked as spam and I have to fish it out of the spam folder. This is mail from various sources including some Order Confirmations from various Online sites and Receipts.

We have also had recent instances where mail from FutureQuest, to site owners using Gmail, has been filtered into the spam folder without those site owners knowledge, even though they have been getting mail from FutureQuest to their Gmail address for some time without any issues up to recently.

Gmail users may want to check their spam folders to make sure they are not losing valid mail and mark any mail found that was filtered improperly as not spam and also to make sure that important addresses are listed in their Gmail address book.

If you are sending mail routinely to Gmail users you may want to ensure they are getting your mail as well as making sure they have your address listed in their address book.

Just a heads up from some personal observations,
Bob

I'm replying just to note that I've noticed much more agressive filtering at my Gmail account. There have been very few false positives in the past years - up to a few weeks ago. Now I have to monitor the Gmail spam folder carefully. Even mail from people listed in my Gmail contacts and that should get filtered into a label gets placed in the spam folder instead.

Agreed! As I noted back on 12/5 (http://www.aota.net/forums/showthread.php?postid=154234#post154234), the changes must have occurred in the third or fourth week of November. I've had to drop my forwarding to gmail and now manage it using Tom E's nice lil' app, and in the next week or so will start using Chip's filtering program.

I just scanned my spam folders on two Gmail accounts and found no real mail. I must be lucky, but thanks for the heads-up, I'll be watching more closely.

Interestingly my Inbox is often filled with semi-spam ads from businesses I trade with. Amazing how Gmail sorts these out, they must compare them with the "Sent Mail" box.

Add me to the list of people "bitten" by this latest Gmail problem. In my case I had an account deactivated and had to pay the $10 reactivation fee. What is strange is that the deactivation notice arrived fine, but the previous 4 notices from FutureQuest went to the spam folder :dunno: . I usually use Outlook Express to check my email and have my two gmail accounts checked through there, but the mismarked "spam" emails were not retrieved via outlook express.

I love Gmail. If you are actively marking things as spam/not spam, I've noticed really good results. I do check the spam folder each day, and there is usally 1 or two false positives... but it does seem to rememebr if I mark somethinga s not spam (for example a mailing list message) and the next time it does arrive in my inbox.
