View Full Version : How does this look with Netscape 6?

OK, again tonight I've tried and tried to get Netscape 6 to install on NT4, but it will not do more than show its Gecko splash screen.

I'm very curious to know if my layout looks ok in 6, or if it will need major work before everyone upgrades.
So can anyone with NS6 tell me if this looks OK?

Thanks in advance :) :)

Hi Jeff,

The layout looks fine in NS6 to me. I couldn't see any differences from how it looks in MSIE.

Thanks Arthur,

Just what I wanted to hear :)

You saved me from installing Windows 98 tommorrow!
You could upgrade your NT4 to Windows 2000. NS6 does run under W2K.

BTW I see that the site doesn't display correctly in Opera 5.0. The links at the top (Boat design, Boatbuilding, Navigate) are put on top of each other and can't be read.

From a quick glance, it looks fine under Netscape 6 on Linux, with one minor exception -- I clicked on the first link (titled "Boat Plans"), and near the bottom, your banner ad is on top of the search box. Reloading (getting a different banner ad) seems to have changed this, and it looks fine again... I'm guessing there may have been some CSS conflict somewhere, maybe there was some HTML in that particular banner ad that broke things. I don't recall what the banner said however... of course it's possible Netscape just ran into a glitch...

Other than that, the site looks nice :)

Thanks again to both Justin and Arthur :)

I did download Opera 5 which now has a free (ad supported) version to test with.[nbsp][nbsp]I'm not too worried about it since <1% of my visitors are likely to be using it.[nbsp][nbsp]I do wish that browsers didn't always identify themselves as Mozilla or even IE 5 (which Opera seems to) though :(

I can't quite bring myself to upgrade to 2000 yet, because NT is running so smoothly.[nbsp][nbsp]With every other MS OS release, from being at the store the day 95 was released, I have taken the plunge too soon and then gone through the service pack routine to get basic things working.[nbsp][nbsp]But I probably won't be able to hold out much longer... maybe I'll install 2000 over the holidays.

The element overlap might be due to the menu layers at the top or maybe the javascript which forces the banner to be random; other than that the whole page is tables and the banners are just gif's; no raw html.[nbsp][nbsp]Or hopefully it was just a one-time glitch...

Thanks again :)

I got the same thing Justin did in NS6 but not IE5.

Thanks Tatu,

I suppose the overlap is a problem then.

--time to try another download and then get back in touch with 98...
