Hello![nbsp][nbsp]I need help!

I am a newbie to FQ.[nbsp][nbsp]I am trying to ftp my site from Dreamweaver to FQ, but it puts my html files into a directory under my username, not under the www directory where they need to be?[nbsp][nbsp]I can move them manually, but how do I ftp them right to there in the first place?

Thanks!

If you go into Edit>Preferences, then select Site FTP.[nbsp][nbsp]In there you will find an option for "Web Server Info" - in the directory path box, enter the path you want to FTP into, in your case it's /big/dom/xyourdomain/www

Hope this helps :).

<font color=#FF0000>NOTE:</font> The following will no longer work on all servers. See additional discussions below...
</edit>

Instead of /big/dom/... you can also just use www/

Rich, really?

Does that go for all occassions where I might want to use the absolute path, or just the FTP sessions?

Jim:

This is a special case and you cannot always forego using the fully qualified path. It really just depends on how and where the use takes place. In this case, when you connect via ftp, you are placed in your home directory. If you look in the home directory you'll see a www directory listed which a link to the real location--so, this is why this works here.

Rich: the symlink to 'www' was depracated long ago due to the confusion of people asking:

&quot;Where is my cgi-bin???&quot;

It also created havoc for those that created fully qualified paths using their HOME directory in the path, which as you know HOME directory permissions won't allow Apache to touch anything...

An off the wall comment that sprang into my head...

I wonder how many will read down to Rich's first suggestion, stop there and say &quot;wow, I didn't know you could do that&quot;...[nbsp][nbsp]Try it, it fails - then reads my corrective post...

PS: It must be Christmas, as I just got my 'World Domination' kit and that has the above disclaimer printed right after 'Some Assembly Required'...

With some other BBS apps *ahem* vBulletin *ahem* you could have done some database manipulation and inserted your corrective post before Rich's ;)

I'm sorry if my previous post confused some...
