I'm attempting to upload a Quicktime video to my site with no success.
The clip was shot w/ a Canon video cmera, Firewire downloaded from the camera to my Mac G5, edited w/ iMovie and saved as .mov file. Now, when I attempt to upload from my hard drive to CNC it looks like a transfer is taking place but the .mov file does not appear in my CNC.
Any experience / knowledge / ideas / help floating around out there w/ this sort of problem?
I'll check back w/ this forum or can receive email at tom@envere.com
Thanks,
Tom

How big is the file?? As I recall, there is a file size limitation with CNC, you may have to upload via FTP for this to work.
I'm not finding the post on the CNC file size, 2mb sticks in my mind though.

I can see some .mov files in your account. You can compare file sizes to see if they are complete. (If you still don't see the files, we can provide the location if you wish...either here or via the Service Desk (http://service.futurequest.net/?_a=tickets&_m=submit).)
John is correct that the CNC might not be the best way to upload the files. From the upload screen in the CNC:
While there is no real file size limit, due to the limitations of HTTP your upload may time out while uploading large files or on a slow connection. If this happens, first go back to the File Manager and see which files, if any, actually made it before re-uploading them. It is usually a good idea to upload large files one at a time.
If you still have problems, you should use an FTP program to do your larger file uploads.
What is FTP and how do I use it? (http://service.FutureQuest.net/kb49) might be helpful to you.

Thanks Melissa & John.
I do see three .mov files in my CNC now but am not able to actually access them as far as I can tell.
The file I want to upload shows as only a 24 KB Quicktime movie.
I'll see what I can accomplish w/ FTP in the morning.

You might need to compress the movie. I think in imovie you do something like File > Export > Web

I have some 50 meg MP4 movies at one of our Non-Profit sites, they work fine. I am sure with something like Fetch (mac) or WinSCP (windows) you can upload and link to your files.

Thanks Steve,
I'm having a number of problems with this still and have sort of put it on hold for a while. It's all probably simple to fix but I can't seem to get from my iMovie (Mac) edited version (which worked out fine) through Quicktime (which I think is necessary but have been unable to verify so far) and into Fetch (which I've been advised is now not the most favored FTP source for Macs). I can get the movie to upload to my CNC but then can't work with it - it's apparently not active.
One problem seems to be that I'm losing data in all of this transferring process. The edited iMovie version is listed at 700+ KB but the three saved versions are shown at 20 - 70 KB. It's about a 2 min movie w/ sound so I'm sure it must be several hundred KB.
I think I need a Mac or Quicktime pro to walk me through all of this.

I still use Fetch. What have you been hearing about Fetch or other FTP for Mac?

From everything I'm aware of, Fetch is a fine FTP client for Mac. I personally use Transmit, which I believe is the most popular one for Mac OS X these days. But it's stricly a UI issue. I don't know of any reason Fetch wouldn't be able to properly upload files.

Called a local Mac repair shop / dealer - long time Mac affiliation and pretty high up the food chain with Apple authorizations and certifications (I looked into buying the shop a few years back and learned a great deal about them) - and was told that a ~$20 shareware package from panic.com called Transmit was the latest & greatest.
Haven't looked at it yet.

Our mac is on OS7 for other reasons because of legacy equipment we run. Fetch is the one we have always used. Actually when I am in a hurry we just use IE to move the files.

Transmit may be the latest and greatest, but there aint nothing wrong with good ole fetch.

I'm on OS 10.4.8.
How do you use IE to do that? I've attempted to upload this movie from my files to my CNC w/ IE witjout success. All my HTML files upload just fine through IE.
I'm thinking I've probably got some formatting or compression issue(s) that needs to be resolved.

I think the CNC has file size limitations... I recommend if you have fetch, to use it. Upload using binary format.
(edit to say the file sizes you mention do not seem that large... )

The way we use IE is to put ftp://yoursite.tld and press enter in the browser window. It will then ask for your id and password (same as you use for CNC) once you put it in you will see your Directorys, drag and drop to the one your are transfering the file to.
Not sure why, but no one recomends using IE, although it has worked for us for 10 years.
Like Evoir said make sure you use binary, not ascii (text) like you would for scripts.

I always thought that FTP URLs in IE were just read-only!
In cases where it's not worth having someone install an FTP client, I used to walk them through setting up an FTP connection in Windows Explorer. Now I can just email them a link!
Thanks Steve!
