gzip / winzip question

Does anyone know why whenever I try to uncompress a gzipped file using WinZip on Windows, I get an "Unvalid compressed file, unable to inflate" error message?

It then tries to uncompress the file, but when I edit it, its in binary.

I thought it was an extension problem, so I made sure that when the gzip file is created, it only has a ".gz" extension.

Never mind, I found out that I was transferring the gzip file to my PC as ASCII and not BINARY.
