what is the proper size for a banner?

I was told they were 468x80 and then i went out on the web.. paying more attention to these cuz I am making some of my own. AND MUCH TO MY SURPRISE.. my banners are not the right size! http://www.aota.net/ubb/frown.gif

What i saw was 468x60 and 468x72
Does anyone know what the standard is? Cuz I surely would like to have this right. I have remade my banners at 468x60.

thanks a bunch.

if ya want a sneak.. they are rather large in size 13-14k .. but that is just too bad for now, *grin*

Each site that sells banner space has their own rules but the common sizes are 468x60 for banners, 110x110 and 125x125 for square banners (the ones you see on the left of pages usually), and 110x35 and 88x31 for buttons.....

Best to make many different ones... and have something that resizes easily so you are ready to be placed on that site that only allows a size you may not have been prepared for.

File size (as always) is very important also. The smaller the file size, the faster it will load, the better chance some one is going to see it before they start clicking or scrolling by it.....

If you're planning on submitting your banners to an exchange program, keep in mind that some (if not most) of them place a restriction on the filesize of the banner.

P.S. I like the first banner the best. http://www.aota.net/ubb/smile.gif

Hehe - I want to check them out but I'm running 16 colors right now. I'm getting another video card later though.

But 468 x 60 is the de-facto standard. Link Exchange used to be some off-the-wall size, but they recently went to the norm too.

Hearts, 468 x 60 pixels and 400 x 40 are the sizes I mentioned that were standard...but other sites will use buttons of the 88 x 88 size. When creating banners for your own pages for others to put on their personal sites, have a variety of sizes for them to choose from.

For banner exchanges, their restrictions vary but the three sizes listed above are the norm.

For your own sponsorship on your site, you decide the factor.

As for size, most exchanges keep with a 10k for animated and 7k for static as a rule of thumb. http://www.aota.net/ubb/smile.gif Hope this helps.
