This is a question about setting up IRMs, but I would like to (hopefully) clearly lay out what I am trying to do.

I have an FQ account (Domain.com) and would like to add IRMs for OtherDomain.org and for OtherDomain.com, by which I mean they are the SAME name OtherDomain but one is .org and one is .com. Each would point to a different web page.

Additionally I would like to redirect the Domain.com to an outside website (Non-FQ.com) and NOT redirect the IRMs.

So far I have:
- established the Domain.com
- used .htaccess redirect 301 / http://non-FQ.com/ to redirect (from advice folks here helpfully gave me a while ago)
- set up IRM for OtherDomain.org
.. this meant I set up a subdirectory /OtherDomain

So --- my two problems (so far!)
1) I am confused as to what to do, or if I even can, set up an IRM for the OtherDomain.com. How would I do this?
2) going to the direct URL (http://Domain.com/OtherDomain) redirects to the Non-FQ.com. Deleting the .htaccess eliminates this, but I would still like the Domain.com to redirect, just not the IRMs. Can I do this?

Hopefully this was somewhat clear ... welcoming any advice!

Ok just to be clear :)

You have maindomain.com and a .htaccess that redirects to an external site. Any address that someone accesses using maindomain.com such as maindomain.com/irm will fall under your .htaccess rule however your IRM should not redirect as long as you access it by it's domain name.

http://maindomain.com should redirect
http://maindomain/irm should also redirect

However http://irmdomain.com should not if you have your .htaccess setup properly.

If you access http://IRMdomain.com directly does it work or do you get redirected?

Note that if the domains involved are what i believe they are then your IRM does not yet point at the FutureQuest name servers and you would not be able to access it except using the maindomain.com/irm address and with the .htaccess in place you will get redirected.

Hope this is clearer then mud :confuz:

Bob,

Actually that is very clear, thanks, I have started the process of pointed the nameservers to FQ for the IRM OtherDomian.org site, once that happens I suspect it will work just as you describe.

Still confused about how to set up the .com though!

Again ... thanks!

Dusty,

If the .com is to be different then the .org then order another IRM for it pointing to a different subdirectory. However if you want the .com and .org to both show the same content you would still order an IRM but you would specify the same subdirectory as your current IRM.

Hope this helps further,
Bob

Ha, ha, WHAAP (sound of hand striking forehead), another case of read the directions dummy!!

Thanks, even though it clearly says you don't need to use the domain name as the subdirectory name I did not realize that ....

The subdirectory may be named anything you want and some folks, obviously, use the domain name (without the TLD) however in your case that wasn't fully possible.

However you could have used IRMdomain and IRMdomaincom or similar. Some folks use IRM1, IRM2 and so on, however to me using a name that quickly can be identified with the IRM domain name makes more sense, FWIW ;)

Order received and it should get activated fairly soon :)
