View Full Version : Firefox - remember This password?

If I'm on a specific page with a password form (maybe one that I've told firefox not to remember the password in the past) what's the easiest way to tell firefox that I now do want it to remember my password for that page?

Tools -> Options -> Privacy -> Passwords -> View Saved Password -> Passwords Never Saved

Just delete the relevant data from that area and it should ask you if you want to save the password the next time you visit that site. :smile:
(BTW - this info was found on FF 1.5.03 - older versions may behave differently)

preferences > privacy > saved passwords > view saved passwords (button) > passwords never saved (tab)

Delete the site from that list and the next time you go there you will get the dialog box as if it was your first visit.

Works on FF 1.0.8 too.

I've always thought that "View Saved Passwords" button is a bit of a security hole, as anybody with access to the account can look it up if they know about it (unles you've set a master password - which isn't there by default).

Every time I've shown somebody it they've been pretty surprised.

That is what local account passwords and screen locks are for.

However if Firefox wants to become a maintstream browser, it's going to be used by people who have neither of these. Also, someone only needs access to a machine for a few seconds to obtain the passwords.

You can always disable the feature completely if you don't feel safe with it. Even if they didn't display the passwords someone could still just use the system to access the sites. Or even worse they could copy the database and dissect it later.
